When we were first given the assignment to read Hamlet is was happy because, having read this before

in high school, I thought it would be an easy reading assignment. So when I read it this time I already
had sort of a closed mind during my first read through, and because of that I did not get a new since of
understanding of Hamlet. After reading our book a Script Analysis and Forwards and Backwards, I was
giving a different way of thinking about Hamlet as far as looking into the action, and looking for a
meaning behind every sentence. So upon a second read through my thoughts of hamlet drastically
changed. During high school when reading Hamlet we just look at it as a simple tragedy, of gloom and
death, which was made to warn the viewer away from love, and greed. Of course this meaning is only
developed toward the end of the play where most of the action starts to play out. This time reading
Hamlet I had the technique of viewing action as the most important element of the play, important
themes can be seen not only in the end but throughout the entire play. For example the appearance,
disappearance, and reappearance of the ghost, I think has portrays a theme that is seen in the play.
When the ghost first appears the Characters Horatio, Marcellus, and Bernardo are afraid. When the
Ghost appears the second time they great it with violence and threatens to slay it, so the ghost leaves
again. After the ghost leaves, Horatio, Marcellus, and Bernardo realize that ghost was about to say
something. Their violence did not help, but impeded upon the goal. This Theme can be seen throughout
the rest of the story. So long story short many themes for the play can be seen in the beginning apposed
the just the end.
