ARIZONA
Legacy in Arizona
• Legacy has awarded $1,402,492.58 in grants to projects in Arizona.

• Former Governor Janet Napolitano is a former member of the Legacy Board of Directors.

Tobacco Usage

• In FY2010 Arizona spent $23.4 million on tobacco prevention, which is 34.3% of the CDC
Annual Spending Target.1

• The CDC estimates that 46.1% of adult smokers in Arizona tried to quit smoking in 2008.2

• Arizona received $475 million in tobacco settlement payments and taxes in FY2010.3

• Arizona has not securitized any of its Master Settlement Agreement (MSA) dollars. 4

State Tobacco Laws

Excise Tax: There is a tax of $2.00 per pack on cigarettes. On smokeless tobacco products
(chewing tobacco, snuff, etc) there is a $0.2225 tax per ounce. All other products have varying
taxes based on weight.10

Clean Indoor Air Ordinances


• Smoking is prohibited in all public places and workplaces, including all schools,
government buildings, health facilities, restaurants and bars.

Youth Access Laws


• The minimum age requirement for the purchase of tobacco products is 18, and both
minors and merchants who violate this law are guilty of a petty offense.

• The sale of bidis to minors is prohibited.
