Solved Example Based On Single Sampling Plan

Example:
Design a single sampling plan with the following parameters. Producer's risk (α) = .05;
Consumer's risk (β) = .10; Acceptable quality level (AQL) = 0.04 and Lot tolerance percent
defectives = 0.10. Cumulative probabilities of Poisson distribution are used in designing this
plan. The Poisson Cumulative probabilities table is shown in Appendix. The Poisson
probability distribution is as given below. P(x)= mx e-m/x!
where m is the mean of the distribution and x is the random variable.
In sampling plan, m = n× p(1-α), where n is the sample size and p(1-α), is the quality level
(AQL) of the lot or the probability of acceptance with respect to the given producer's risk.
The value of m for different values of C (equivalent to x) can be obtained for a given
cumulative probability of (1 − α) or β from Appendix.
A sample Table is given below. Since, the probabilities in Poisson table are presented

Discretely, you may find probability values only for some values of (1 − α) or β. Hence, the
values for m are obtained based on interpolation if necessary.
From the given data,
LTPD/AQL = 0.1/.04 = 2.5
The values of C and np0.95 for the above ratio from the above table are 10 and 6.169,
respectively.
Therefore,
np0.95 = 6.169
n × AQL = 6.169
n × .04 = 6.169
n = 154.225 = 155 (Approx.)
The results of the design are summarized below:
Sample size, n = 155
Acceptance number, C = 10.
