STOP ANIMAL EXPERIMENTATIONS

By: Charles Williams

ANIMAL EXPERIMENTATION

Animal experimentation is
“the use of live animals in
research in the biological,
psychological, and
medical technological
sciences”
HISTORY

•Origins of animal experimentation started with

poliomyelitis in the 19th.

• Polio is an infectious viral disease which causes

paralysis and muscle wastage in children.

•Researchers thought it would be unsafe to give this

vaccine to humans without it first being tested to see
if it was safe, and if it would work.

•The success of the polio vaccine paved the way for

all of the animal experimentation which is being
done today.
AFFECTS

• Everyday more and more laboratory animals are

deliberately poisoned, burned, scalded, irradiated,
genetically manipulated, physically injured, inflicted with
deadly disease and surgically mutilated.

•Millions of innocent animals are abused, tortured,

confined, and eventually killed to determine the “safety” of
products.

•Substances ranging from eye shadow and soap to furniture

polish and oven cleaner are tested on rabbits, rats, guinea
pigs, dogs, and other animals.

•The animal test statistic points to the fact that 50% of all
animals used in cosmetic testing die 2-3 weeks after the
experiments.

ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS
•It is the law that the United States that regulates the
treatment of animals in research, exhibition, transport, and
by dealers.

•Tom Regan says that computer generated cells could

possibly be the end of animal experimentation, but has not
yet been proven.
