Hamlet DJ Act 3 Scene 2 Line 253

The significance of this quote brings out the guilt of King Claudius of what he did
towards King Hamlet. King Claudius is characterized as the antagonist now, on the line where he
says “Have you heard the argument? Is there no offense in’t” The line demonstrates his guilt by
showing how nervous and twitchy he is acting. This play the Mousetrap is a symbol referring
back to how Claudius murdered King Hamlet and you can infer through the name Mousetrap, all
of Hamlet’s plan. Hamlet’s intention was to catch evidence of King Claudius admitting his sin he
committed. Mousetrap, emphasizes that one has been caught and this is the scene where Hamlet
finally captures Claudius. Also, Hamlet’s attitude towards this whole situation is evident. You
get a sense that Hamlet is a little assertive and comical. Hamlet seems comical when he states,
“O but she’ll keep her word,” because he realizes at this point the queen is acting dumb like she
had nothing to do with the murder of his father when she clearly does.
