Mrs. Tottens Lesson Plan for Monday, Sept. 19, 2011 Lesson Objective: Students will read There Will Be Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury in order to monitor and apply the six reading strategies, make inferences, and identify theme within the text. Special Note to Students: TURN IN ALL WORK TO THE TEACHER

Plagiarized work will earn a zero. Ask your TEACHER if you need assistance. * Your conduct in class will be recorded on at least 1 of your assignments. It is YOUR job to ask the teacher to write a brief note to me regarding your work ethic and leadership skills. NO NOTE = NO GRADE. * Be on your BEST behavior, the literary cafe is still off limits, no eating, and no computer time.

ACTIVITIES:

1. CLASSWORK GRADE - 25% Journal Entry #14: Connect to Your Life on pg. 86 (only copy the actual question), answer following the writing standards and expectations. 2. ASSESSMENT GRADE - 50% Create a chart with the following columns/boxes: Predictions, Questions/Clarication, Visualizations (with descriptive words from the text), Connections, Evaluations. As you read the text, pause and record your thoughts in the appropriate areas. Each box/column must have AT LEAST 3 ITEMS. 3. CLASSWORK GRADE - 25% Make an inference about what has happened to the former inhabitants of the house/city. Create the following formula on your own paper and ll in: CLUES FROM THE TEXT MY BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE MY INFERENCE

4. CLASSWORK GRADE - 25% Identify a higher level subject (ex. Oppression in Harrison Bergeron) from the story and develop a theme from it. Share your thoughts with your group. Ask if its higher level enough, is this a big statement the story is making, does it make sense? 5. HOMEWORK GRADE - 25% Pg. 93, # 1(including Comprehension Check) and # 7. (Make Me Proud! Remember...Im watching...)
