Introduction

You have been hired to report on events that happened to the characters in the story. You will create a newsletter to inform readers of the events and tragedies that occurred in the novel Hanas Suitcase by Karen Levine. You will look at events from Europe, Japan and Canada.

You will create a newsletter that reports on several events that take place in the story. You will have a choice of articles to include in your newsletter.

Write a letter to Karen Levine, the author of Hanas Suitcase, explaining how her book affected you in three ways. You have been given permission to invite George Brady to speak to students at Tommy Douglas. What a letter to the principal to persuade him that this person would be the best choice.

OBITUARY

You will need to write THREE obituaries for different characters in the book. Some people may have already died, others may still be really alive, but you may write an obituary for them. An obituary is found in a newspaper and reports a persons death. It usually includes their date of birth and date of death, how they died, family members, and a description of their life. Listed below are some fun examples.

A Bloating Victim, Garfield the cat, 19, died yesterday of excessive bloating. "He couldn't control his eating," said his owner Jon Arbuckle. "In the past few months his weight ballooned to over 80 pounds. He'd waddle a couple of steps or so, then collapse from the weight." An autopsy performed today revealed that Garfield's stomach contained a partly digested pizza, half a chocolate doughnut, the remains of a fish, three cookies and several body parts identified as once belonging to Odie the dog. PILLSBURY DOUGHBOY DEAD AT 71

Veteran Pillsbury spokesman Pop N. Fresh died yesterday of a severe yeast infection. He was 71. Fresh was buried in one of the largest funeral ceremonies in recent years. Dozens of celebrities turned out, including Mrs. Butterworth, the California Raisins, Hungry Jack, Betty Crocker and the Hostess Twinkies. The graveside was piled high with flours, as long-time friend Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy, describing Fresh as the man whom "never knew how much he was kneaded." Fresh rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with many turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting most of his

dough on half-baked schemes. Still, even as a crusty old man, he was a role model for millions. Fresh is survived by his second wife -- they have two children and one in the oven. The funeral was held at 4:25 for about 20 minutes.

Tweety Bird Finally Caged Tweety Bird, died yesterday at the age of fifteen. Sylvester had finally got a hold of the bird while old Granny was not looking. ADVERTISEMENTS
Your first advertisement will be to make a travel ad for Nove Mesto. Describe interesting places, location, and other items that may inspire people to visit. It is your choice on a second advertisement. You may invent a twist on a product, a strange product, or a product that doesn't yet exist (such as shampoo for astronauts). List the important features of this product, then think up ways to entice someone to buy it. Use the appeals and graphic details discussed above. You

can either hand-draw your ad, or use software to design a more professionallooking ad. What would be appropriate is to have advertisements that fit the setting of the book, either in Europe or in Japan. Do NOT copy and paste a product like shown below. This will not earn marks.

Classified ads allow people and businesses to advertise items for sale and post job notices. Categories you can write ads for are employment opportunities, homes for sale, services, vehicles for sale, pets and animals for sale, and merchandise for sale.
