Name : Smt. Rani Kavati
Designation : Lecturer
Branch : AEIE
Institute : S.G.P.R Govt. Polytechnic, kurnool
Semester : V Semester
Subject : Linear IC Applications
Subject code : AEI-505
Topic : Introduction To Op-amp
Duration : 50 min
Sub Topic : Power supply Requirements of op-amp
Teaching Aids : Diagrams.
AEI 505.8 1
Objectives

Upon the completion of this topic, the student

will be able to know

• The power supply requirements of op-amp.

AEI 505.8 2
Introduction

• Most linear ICs use one or more differential amplifier

stages
• They require more positive and negative supply for
proper operation of circuit
• This means that most linear IC need both a +ve and –ve
power supply
• Few linear IC (Ex : IC702 ) requires unequal power
supply
• Few linear IC (Ex:IC324) requires only positive supply

AEI 505.8 3
• The two power supply required for a linear IC are usually
equal in magnitude ( for example +15V to -15V )
• The power supply voltages must be referenced to a
common point or ground

• +VCC and –VEE are symbols used to represent +ve and –

ve voltages respectively

AEI 505.8 4
• The figure shows the power supply
connections of 741IC
• Pin 7 is for +ve supply
• Pin 4 is for –ve supply
