AEI504.27 1
Recap

We have discussed

• Implementation of PID controller using OP-AMPS

AEI504.27 2
Objectives

On completion of this period you would be able to

know

• Construction of error detection circuit using

resistive circuit

AEI504.27 3
Interaction/Discussion

• What is a potentiometer

AEI504.27 4
Error detection

• Error is the difference between set point and the regulated

value

• The detection of an error signal is accomplished in electronic

controllers by taking the difference between voltages

• One voltage is generated by the process signal current

passed
through a resistor
AEI504.27 5
Error detection

• The second voltage is generated by a voltage divider using a

constant voltage as a source. This is the set point voltage
Vsp.

AEI504.27 6
Error detection

• Assume a two wire system

• The current drawn from the floating power supply is the 4

mA to 20 mA signal current

• The signal current is used to produce a voltage IR across

the resistor R

AEI504.27 7
Error detection circuit

AEI504.27 8
Error detection

• This voltage is placed in series opposition to a voltage Vsp

(set point voltage)

• Vsp is tapped from a variable resister Rsp which is

connected to a constant positive source V0

• The result is an error voltage Ve = Vsp – IR

• The Ve is used in the process controller to calculate

controller output AEI504.27 9
Summary

• Developing resistive circuit for error detection

• Apply constant voltage source to voltage divider

• Connect Vsp in series opposition to process voltage to get

difference
