ULTRA SONICS

What are Ultra Sonics ?

• Ultra sonics is basically a sound which is not

audible.

• The term Ultra Sonics is used in acoustics.

• Frequencies are beyond the range of human

hearing.

ULTRASONICS…

AEI602.31 4
Characteristics of Ultra Sonics

• These are sound waves of frequencies above 20 KHz.

• Important source of energy with wide range applications.

AEI602.31 5
Characteristics of Ultra Sonics…

• Modern methods enable us to produce Ultra Sonics with

frequencies of about 5X105Hz.

• Wave length of Ultra Sonics in air ranges from 1.6 to

6X10-5cm.

AEI602.31 6
Characteristics of Ultra Sonics…

• Wave length of Ultra Sonics in liquids ranges from

6 to 2.4X10-4cm.

• Wave length of Ultra Sonics in solids ranges from

20 to 8X10-4cm.

• Ultra sonics will have wave length of the same

order as visible light.

AEI602.31 7
Characteristics of Ultra Sonics…

• Ultra Sonic waves are not Electromagnetic waves in

nature.

• The electric energy is converted into Ultra Sonic

vibrations (or energy) by means of Transducers.
