Implementation Plan: This project is for 12th graders in a Business & Finance II: Virtual Enterprise Academy class in which they are learning to create and operate a business. This project would provide the students the opportunity to share with others globally about their lives and for them to learn about others. The project would supplement the curriculum, by allowing the students to see how others live around the world-which is relevant as they are creating a business model. o Day 1: Student discussions about One Day On Earth, why participate ( a period) o Day 2: Students document their day, 11-11-11 (out of class) o Day 3: Students share their documentation with teacher via email ( a period) o Day 4: View created video, Create an account, Post a comment ( a period) http://vimeo.com/32483977 o Day 5: View a different photo/video from somewhere else, post a comment about it ( a period)

Stage 1 Desired Results Established Goals: What relevant goals (e.g. content standards, course or program objectives, learning outcomes) will this design address? E-commerce Pathway Standards The Internet is increasingly the element that holds the global economy together as it makes the marketplace into an all-day, everyday event. Globalization is no longer an option but a strategic necessity for all but the smallest of corporations. Students pursuing the E-commerce Pathway develop an understanding of the functions, foundations, and dynamics of e-commerce as well as the legal, ethical, and social responsibilities of the business. Understandings: Essential Questions: Students will understand: 1) What is One Day On Earth? Why participate? 1) How to create an account 2) How could we benefit by participating? 2) The benefits of sharing about our lives with others 3) How could participating help us with the creation of globally our business? 3) How to email their documentation 4) How/What could others learn from seeing our video/documentation? 4) About other cultures and their daily life Students will be able to: Students will know: Create an account on One Day On Earth How others live locally Create email that allows their Day to be added to How others live globally the video About other cultures Communicate effectively with those from different How to use the Internet to share globally areas. Use the Internet for positive globally sharing Stage 2 Assessment Evidence Performance Tasks: 1) Students will Document their day 2) Students will email the documentation to be used for video 3) Students will view Video http://vimeo.com/32483977 4) Students will Post a comment on our wall Other Evidence: 1) Optional: Students may write a 1 page reflection in MLA report style about this project

Stage 3 Learning Plan Learning Activities: 1) Discuss One Day On Earth, What it is, Why participate, How to participate, etc.. 2) Students will document their day 3) Students will be guided through the website and shown some examples of documentation 4) Students will be guided through how to turn in their documentation 5) Students will show that they have learned by: Students writing about their day Students will comment/post on the One Day On Earth website www.onedayonearth.org Students will comment/post on our wall http://www.onedayonearth.org/profile/ShannonFriedman Students will participate in a discussion after viewing our video

Post Project Analyses I was laid off from my traditional teaching position so although I did teach this project to the same class that I would have been teaching, it was not my class, I was a guest teacher. This altered the results I was hoping for. Day 1-Nov 9th: As planned-Student discussions about One Day On Earth, why participate, how to participate. Showed students the website: www.onedayonearth.org and we discussed the various ways that they could participate, song, poem, picture, written ( a period) Day 2-Nov 11th: Students document their day, 11-11-11 (out of class). This was the tough part-since I was a guest teacher, and the other instructor did not require students to do this because it was not a school day-and typically most students wont do any assignments-and/or dont have a camera readily accessible to them. These students were my former students. The teacher did offer extra credit. But only about 5 students took pictures. And 6 more students participated by using text to document their day. 11 out of about 25 students participated. Day 3 Nov 14th: Students shared their documentation with teacher via email, many students learned to create email accounts and how to email with an attachment. Shared with students the website and some of the preliminary postings already available for viewing. Went over timelines and let them know when the video would be ready for viewing ( a period) Day 4 Nov 28th: Emailed each participant with detailed instructions for this step. View created video, Create an account, Post a comment ( a period) http://vimeo.com/32483977 o Students were unable to view videos at school. One student viewed it at home and participated by posting a comment about the video. Day 5: Nov 29th View a different photo/video from somewhere else, post a comment about it ( a period). Students have not been able to complete this. Only was able to get 1 student to create an account and post a comment about the video-she did it at home.

Johanna left a comment for Shannon Friedman I like how this video is made and I like all the pictures that's in this video. Also, lots of people have a really interesting story about there day.

Observations, Possible Modifications, Challenges: In the future I would make several modifications to this project: 1) I would have had all students email me on the 9th so that I had their emails/phone numbers and I would have texted/emailed them on the 11th to remind them. 2) I would more strongly recommend that the teacher make the assignment Required. If a student did not have access to a camera then they could write about their day. 3) I would also have found a different class to use, Peer Resource or Art, etc. I think they would be even more suited to this project 4) Really needed a teacher to embrace the idea, at the time the teacher I was working with was not engaged. It was refreshing to see which students showed interest in this project. I was surprised to see how many of the students still didnt know how to email someone or attach a photo. I was surprised because this is an Academy class and I showed many of them over two years ago. But it seems that they havent used those skills in the last two years Student Response: Students were very intrigued by the project and thought that it was cool. They liked the idea of the project and I believe that if this project was on a School Day in the future all of the students would enjoy it and gain a very meaningful experience from this project.
