Dog Cindy Lou Who Family Who Chorus (Curtain closed) (Cue music - The Shape of Things To Come - stops at 2:50) Narrator: Inside a snowake, Like the one on your sleeve, Happened a story, You must see to believe. Way up in the mountains In the high range of Pontoos, Lay the small town of Whoville, The home of the Whos. Ask any Who, And theyll have this to say, There is no place like Whoville Around Christmas Day. (Curtain opens) (Whos bustling around with presents and bags) (Music plays - singing fades and narrator) Every window was ocked Every lamppost was dressed, And the Whoville Band marched In their Christmas-y best. (A band of Whos march by as marching band music plays) (Band music fades, singing again) Arbor Day was ne, and Easter was pleasant, And every Saint Fizzins Day

They ate a Fizz pheasant, But every Who knew, From their 12 toes to their snout, they loved Christmas the most, Without a single Who doubt. (Lots of Whos around, Cindy holding a dozen presents, Father looking at the shopping list) Father: We got a snoozlephone for your brother Drew, and a snoozlephone for your brother Stu, a muncle for your uncle, a fant for your aunt, and a fandpa for your cousin Leon. So we just need---Cindy? Cindy Lou? Honey? (Father removes a package to reveal Cindys face) Cindy: Dad? Doesnt this seem like a bit much? Father: This is what Christmas is all about! Cant you feel it? Cindy: (shakes her head no) (music fades) (Curtains close) Cindy Lou enters in front of the curtain and sings Where Are You Christmas? in the microphone (Cindy Lou exits) (Cue Music - The Shape of Things To Come start at 3:10) Narrator: Yes, every Who down in Whoville Liked Christmas a lot, But the Grinch who lived just north of Whoville--did not. (Grinch appears with Max in front of curtain and paces while narrator reads) The Grinch hated Christmas The whole Christmas season. Now please dont ask why, No one quite knows the reason.

It could be that his head Wasnt screwed on just right, Or it could be, perhaps, That his shoes were too tight. But I think that the most likely reason of all, May have been that his heart Was two sizes too small. (Grinch exits, curtain opens to reveal Whos again) Father: (carrying presents) Boy nothing beats Christmas, right? Cindy Lou: I guess... Father: You guess? Cindy Lou: Well, its just, I look around at you and Mom and everyone getting all kerbobbled. Doesnt this seem...superuous? (Someone in the background says something about the Grinch, Mayor enters) Mayor: Did someone just say Grinch? Father: Hello Mayor May-Who. Mayor: I dont need to remind you all that this Christmas marks the one thousandth Whobilation, Whovilles most important celebration! And the Book of Who (pulling out a large book) says very clearly Every size of Who we can measure knows that Whobilation is a time we must treasure! No one is to provoke the one creature within a billion bilometers of here who hates Christmas! No one is to provoke the Grinch! (Curtains close and Grinch and Max appear again pacing) Narrator: So whatever the reason, His heart or his shoes, He stood outside his cave,

Hating the Whos. Grinch: Nutcrackers! Its their Whobilation! Narrator: ...he snarled with a sneer. Grinch: Tomorrow is Christmas! Its practically here! Narrator: Yes the Grinch knew tomorrow all the Who girls and boys would wake bright and early and rush for their toys. Grinch: And then, oh the noise! Oh the noise, noise, noise noise! Theyll bang on tong-tinglers Theyll blow their oo-ounders. Theyll crash on jang-jinglers and bounce on boing-bounders. Narrator: Then Whos young and old would sit down to a feast. and theyll feast, and theyll feast. Grinch: And theyll feast feast feast feast! Theyll eat their Who-pudding and rare Who roast beast! And thats something I just Can not stand in the least. Narrator: And the more the Grinch thought of what Christmas would bring, the more the Grinch thought Grinch: I must stop this whole thing. Why for year after year Ive put up with it now. I must stop this Christmas from coming But how? Narrator: Then he got an idea. An awful idea. The Grinch got a wonderful, Awful idea.

Grinch: I know just what to do. (Grinch getting a Santa costume) Narrator: The Grinch laughed in his throat. And he made a quick Santy Claus hat and coat. (Grinch puts on Santa clothes) And he chuckled and clucked At this great Grinchy trick. Grinch: With this coat and this hat, Ill look just like St. Nick. Grinch: Forgot about the reindeer! Narrator: Did that stop the old Grinch? No. So he called his dog Max Grinch: MAX!!!! And he took some red thread, And tied a big horn On top of his head. (Grinch and Max exit) (Cue music The Big Heist start at :11) All their windows were dark. Quiet snow lled the air. All the Whos were all dreaming sweet dreams without care When he came to the rst little house on the square... (Grinch and Max walk across the stage in front of the curtain and stop and Grinch says line and keeps going) Grinch: Come on Max, this is our rst stop Narrator: The old Grinchy Claus hissed. And he climbed to the roof, empty bags in his st. Hed slide down the chimney, a rather tight pinch, But if Santa could do it, then so could the Grinch.

(Curtains open) He got stuck only once, For a moment or two, Then he stuck his head out of the replace ue. (Grinch sticks his head around the chimney set) Where the little Who stockings all hung in a row. Grinch: These stockings Narrator: he grinned Grinch: are the rst thing to go. (Grinch takes down stockings) Narrator: Then he slunk to the icebox He eyed the Whos feast. He took the Who pudding. He took the roast beast. (Grinch puts items in a bag) He cleaned out that icebox as quick as a ash. Why that Grinch, he even took their last can of Who-hash. Then he stuffed all the food up the chimney with glee. (Grinch throws bag up the chimney) Grinch: And now-Narrator: grinned the Grinch--Grinch: Ill stuff up the tree. (Fade music) Narrator: And the Grinch grabbed the tree and he started to shove, when he heard a small sound like the coo of a dove.

(Cindy Lou Enters in Pajamas) Cindy Lou: Excuse me? Narrator: The Grinch had been caught by this tiny Who daughter whod got out of be for a cup of cold water. Cindy Lou: Mr. Santa, what are you doing with our tree? Narrator: But you know, that old Grinch, was so smart and so slick, he thought up a lie, and he thought it up quick. Grinch: Why my sweet little tot. Narrator: The fake Santa Claus lied. Grinch: Theres a light on this tree That wont light on one side. So Im taking it home to my workshop, my dear. Ill x it up there, Then Ill bring it back here. Narrator: And his b fooled the child. Then he patted her head, and he got her a drink, (Hands Cindy Lou a cup) and he sent her to bed. And when Cindy Lou went up with her cup he went to the chimney and stuffed the tree up. (Takes the tree backstage) And the last thing he took was the log for their re. (Grinch re-enters and grabs the log) On their walls he left nothing

but some hooks and some wire.

And the one speck of food that hed left in the house was a crumb that was even too small for a mouse. Then he slithered and slunk with a smile most unpleasant, around each Who home and he took every present. Youre A Mean One, Mr. Grinch Song (Two Verses) Youre a mean one Mr. Grinch You really are a heel. You're as cuddly as a cactus, And as charming as an eel, Mr. Grinch! You're a bad banana, With a greasy black peel! You're a monster, Mr. Grinch! Your heart's an empty hole. Your brain is full of spiders. You've got garlic in your soul, Mr. Grinch! I wouldn't touch you With a thirty-nine-and-a-half foot pole! (Grinch enters the audience and takes centerpieces and puts them in his bag while the chorus sings) (Grinch goes back to the stage and climbs the stage stairs) (Music fades) Three thousand feet up, up the side of Mount Crumpit, he rode with his load to the tip top to dump it. Grinch: Theyll be waking up now (Whos entering sadly) And I know just what theyll do. All those Whos down in Whoville Will all cry (Whos): Boo-hoo!!! Boo-hoo!!!

(Cue music A Change of Heart) Mayor: This is all the Grinchs fault! I cant believe he did this! The Grinch ruined Christmas! Father: Well, Mr. Mayor, Im actually glad he took our presents. Mayor: Youre glad everything is gone. Youre glad that the Grinch wrecked Christmas?! Father: You cant hurt Christmas, Mr. Mayor, because it isnt about the gifts or the contests or the fancy lights. Thats what Cindys been trying to tell everyone! And me. Shes been trying to tell me. Mayor: Whats wrong with you? This is a child! Father: Shes my child. And she happens to be right, by the way. I dont need anything more for Christmas than this right here, my family! Whos all cheering: Merry Christmas! (Whos happily leave the stage) (Music fades) (Grinch starts to push the bag over) (Welcome Christmas faint singing Whos from backstage) Narrator: Then the Grinch heard a sound Rising over the snow. It started in low, Then it started to grow. But the sound wasnt sad. Why, this sounded merry. But it was merry. Very. Every Who down in Whoville, The tall and the small, were singing without any presents at all. He hadnt stopped Christmas from coming. It came.

Grinch: Somehow or other, it came Just the same! (Cue music A Change of Heart) Narrator: And the Grinch, with his Grinch feet ice cold in the snow, Stood puzzling, and puzzling. Grinch: How could it be so? It came without ribbons! It came without tags! It came without packages, boxes or bags! Narrator: And he puzzled and puzzled till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadnt before. Grinch: Maybe Christmas he thought doesnt come from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more. (Grinch in pain - heart is growing) Narrator: And what happened then, well, in Whoville they say, that the Grinchs small heart grew three sizes that day. (Whos all re-enter the stage and the Grinch returns the gifts) Narrator: So he brought back the toys and the food for the feast. And he -- he himself, the Grinch, carved the roast beast. Chorus: Sing Welcome Christmas Fahoo fores dahoo dores Welcome Christmas, Christmas day Fahoo fores dahoo dores Welcome Christmas, Christmas day Welcome, welcome fahoo ramus
