INTRODUCTION Quantity Surveyor profession began in England in the early 19th century.

However, at that time, Quantity Surveyor is known as Building Estimator. In the past, Quantity Surveyor duties are to give direction to labour, measuring the work after completion and provide a final account to the client. In Malaysia, the profession was introduced by the Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) in 1930. Then, when the Dasar Ekonomi Baru (DEB) was established in the 1970, many new projects have been developed by government. Therefore, the government has decided to produce more students to be trained in this field. Institute Tekonologi MARA (ITM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TARCe) is among the institutions that are pioneering this profession. Nevertheless, our society is still generally green with the task and function of Quantity Surveyors. While Quantity Surveyor capable of providing estimates of buildings and provide more accurate estimates than the other consultant. Clients also still are referred to the Architects and Engineers for the design aspect and at the same time, questions submitted by the client is, "What is the total cost of the project? Indeed, Architect and Engineer can answer it, but people who are able to provide more detailed information in determining the price is a Quantity Surveyor. Now, QS profession has become one of the professional fields, which has produced many graduates who are trained mentally and physically. More interestingly, QS is not only working with the Consultant, with the Contractor, Project Manager, Government and the bank. In this report, there are some contents on the duties of Quantity Surveyor in the banking sector. This was actually still a new one for Quantity Surveyor. However, if viewed from a positive side, it was proven that Quantity Surveyors is viewed as a field of professional and flexible as capable of serving in any sector.

c) Check progress payment before release payment During this stage, basically Quantity Surveyor will check progress payment. The progress payment will be done by Consultant Quantity Surveyor. First and foremost, a Consultant Quantity Surveyor makes an appointment with the Contractor. They will discuss a suitable date for a visit to the site. Normally, site visits will be conducted once a month. For information, the purpose of site visits is to determine progress of work performed by contractors to be paid. For example, work performed by contractors has reached 30% completion. Therefore, the contractor will receive a sum of 30% of the total contract. Say the total construction cost is RM 1 million. So, 30% of RM 1 million is RM 30 thousand; amount to be received by the contractor. Back to the original topic, a Quantity Surveyor will make site visits to see and estimate the extent to which the work was carried out. Next, Quantity Surveyor will prepare an interim payment certificates to pay to the contractor. The Bank Quantity Surveyor will review the amount the contractor claims and the amount recommended by Consultant Quantity Surveyor. Its purpose is to ensure that the amount proposed by Consultant Quantity Surveyor is realistic to ensure that client funds are properly distributed or used.
