Cognitive Development Defined
Cognitive Development occurs when the child passes through different stages that are characterized by several ways of thought processes and learning about the world. This is Piaget ( 1896-1990) described that many high divided into 4 stages: school students have achieved the formal infancy, early childhood, operational stage. This stage in child development middle childhood, and
becomes evident when students can transform concrete to abstract ideas. Children of this age, who are actually on their adolescent years, do not need a myriad of concrete examples to compehend complicated thought processes.

Characteristics of Adolescent Children


According to Piaget ( 1896-1990) cited in Meece & Daniels (2008), adolescent students share the following characteristics: 1. They need to understand why they do the tasks assigned to do. 2. They can be motivated intrinsically and extrinsically to learn. 3. They recognize that they have cognitive barriers due to failures in the past and low self-confidence. 4. They may completely ignore instructions, and may need to learn to overcome hindrances to learning. 5. They take responsibility of their own learning.
