Tennessee became a state in 1795 Jackson was the first member of the House of Representatives from Tennessee. Co-signed in land speculation with people who ended up going bankrupt ; escaped from going to prison Here he got his distrust for banks and money

1796-97 Disliked Washingtons treaty with Britain and not defending the west from the natives Biggest act- request compensation for soldiers on raid against Indians (raid wasnt approved by the fed. Gov.) Jackson thought it was a mistake and spoke out and got a lot of money for the soldiers

East vs. West Tennessee


Was separated from wilderness which evolved into two different and hostile groups of people Jackson had West John Sevier , first governor of state, and had East Jackson wanted to be Major General of the states militia, but Sevier set out so he wouldn't

After retiring from senate, Jackson was elected into the supreme court of Tennessee Jackson kept his pride and authority while in the court.

Jackson and Sevier fought for the role of Major General Jackson won due to popularity with officers in militia Sevier got mad and had his pals in the state legislator to make a law to divide Tennessee in to two districts. Jackson only controlled the west. Lots more fighting between Jackson and Sevier And had a duel

Jackson was busy being a judge Resigned in 1804, and never was a judge or lawyer again.
