The past simple We use the past simple for actions in the past time are finished.

He stopped drinking alcohol six months ago.

Several actions in the past (diverses accions en el passat) (one after


another). They went to a club, danced for an hour ant then drove home.

We often use the past simple with a past time phase (for example:
yesterday, last week, at 2 oclock, )

Regulars verbs
With regulars verbs you form the past simple tense is in the following ways (de la segent manera).

+ -ed
Most verbs add ed to infinitive form. Ask- asked Happen- happened Start- started

Verbs that end in consonant + -y Study- studied

+ -ied

Verbs that end in consonant + -e Hate- hated Like- liked

+ -d

Verbs ending in a short vowel + consonant (CVC) For these verbs. The last consonant is doubled
Drop- dropped (caure) Shop- shopped Control- controlled

Positive and negative

I/you He/she/it We/they

started didnt start (regular verb) went didnt go (irregular verb) at six oclock.

Affirmative SUBJECT + V. PAST + COMPLEMENTS

We started the course in February. I understood the past lesson.


Negative SUBJECT + Didnt + VERB INFINITIVE + COMPLEMENTS

She didnt cook dinner. I didnt buy anything.
