shelves can be stocked with food, but we hear the voice inside us say, "There is nothing here to eat." Our relationship with Jesus is special because it is life-giving. His gospel message helps us to see what are truly the important things in life. May the Eucharist we receive today spiritually feed the deepest hungers of our heart. A Fresh Look You may have noticed that we recently had three of our parking lots sealcoated and restriped in the past couple of weeks. We appreciate the help of Jay Land, our parishioner, who was able to organize and complete the work. The timing was perfect, between the Block Party and the start of school. A Special Bequest Our parish recently received a special bequest from the estate of Carl Frisco, who along with his wife, Josephine, were parishioners of St. Cyril's. The bequest of $10,000 will be applied to our current capital campaign. I am grateful for Donna Brown, Carl's niece, who handled the distributions of her family's estate. I had the opportunity to show her the work that we are doing on the inside of our church. This is truly an exciting time for our parish as we anticipate returning to church for our primary place of worship later this month. A Postcard from Fr. Marcin Fr. Marcin has been traveling on vacation with his sister, Annette, and niece, Nicole. They were able to drive down to Florida and see Mickey Mouse in Disney World along with a few elephants in Busch Gardens. It looks like the next stop might be the circus!

Congratulations to Mary Beth & Ray Rudis who celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this weekend. They were married at St. Symphorosa parish on the south side of Chicago by Midway airport. Ray and Mary Beth have lived in Lemont since 1966 and have been actively involved in the life of our parish. They can tell you a lot of interesting stories about St. Cyril's from the past. Ray and Mary Beths anniversary reminds me how faith is an important ingredient to a happy and successful marriage. They attend Mass together practically every day. (Once in a while Mary Beth will gently correct Ray if he slips and uses one of the old responses to the New Roman Missal, like "And also with you." It is cute to see them interact this way in church.) Here is an interesting statistic. Do you know that the divorce rate for married couples who practice their faith on regular basis is only 2%. It seems to show that spirituality, prayer and worship is a great resource and support to the vocation of marriage. When I look around the church on Sunday and see the families that are present for Mass, it is obvious that many couples have good and rewarding marriages. My prayer for Ray and Mary Beth is that their years together be filled with health, happiness and peace. What Are You Hungry For? In today's gospel we once again hear some powerful words from Jesus that remind us of what we receive when we come to the Eucharist. Jesus says to his followers, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst." Many times in life we chase after those things that we think will bring us lasting joy and happiness. However, after a while, the charm and excitement wears off, and we are left feeling unfulfilled and empty, looking for something more in life. It's like those times we stand in front of the refrigerator with the door wide open looking for something to eat and we do not know what we want. The

Seven Themes of Catholic Social Teaching: Social Teaching and Formation of Conscience: Option for the Poor and Vulnerable-The basic moral test of a society is how our most vulnerable members are faring. In a society marred by deepening divisions between rich and poor, our tradition recalls the story of the Last Judgment (Mt 25:31-46) and instructs us to put the needs of the poor and vulnerable first. The Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers-The economy must serve people, not the other way around. Work is more than a way to make a living; it is a form of continuing participation in Gods creation. If the dignity of work is to be protected, then the basic rights of workers must be respectedthe right to productive work, to decent and fair wages, to the organization and joining of unions, to private property and to economic initiative. ~all references from USCCB

August 5, 2012

Summer is waning and it is that time of year to consider becoming involved not just in activities required of you or your children but stretching your own faith. There are many ways to do this such as religious education, RCIA, Ministry of Care and now SPRED. Getting involved so your faith matters is key. Celebrating that faith at a Sunday Mass becomes even more powerful. We need just a few more volunteers, men and women. We also want to know the parents of people with developmental and intellectual challenges, autism spectrum disorders, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and learning problems no matter their age of abilities who live in our parish. These parents and interested people are invited to a SPRED Informational Gathering on Tuesday, August 7th at 6:30 PM in our rectory. Training is offered to all who volunteer to make one comfortable in this unique program. The decision is yours. One does not need experience to become involved. SPRED is all about developing friendships. We especially welcome parents of children and teens because we have openings in the SPRED program for them.

marry Catholics want to share not only their lives and values, but also their faith.
i Young parents who are expecting

their first born or have children starting school often find that this is the time to join a faith community that will help them find God in their lives and establish moral values in their family.
i People who are baptized either in the Catholic faith or

another Christian religion, but were not brought up or educated in the religion. As the years go by, they may seek to return to their Christian roots.
i People from all backgrounds that are seeking God in

their liveslooking for answers to life and death questions. The Catholic Church offers great traditions of Scripture, the worship of God in vibrant liturgies, intellectual studies of theology, joyful celebrations through the Sacraments, care for the sick and the dying and love and hope for the poor of the world. How Does a Person Become Catholic? The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is a process by which the Catholic Church welcomes new members into its communal life. The RCIA is a living experience of the Church, and not just a series of classes which teach knowledge about the Church. Although there is instruction in the facts of the faith, instruction is but one part of a larger experience of knowing and sharing with other members of the Church. Who is RCIA for? It is for non-Christian men and women; for Christians that are not Catholic; for Catholics who are baptized, but have no religious training. How Can I Join? The Catholic churches in Lemont work together in this experience. Contact Fr. Larry or Doreen at (630) 2572414 and watch the bulletins for further details. New Group Now Forming for Fall
