Planning Outline (including what pupils could write /say/make/do as a result of learning):

This is the first lesson that S1 pupils have within R.E. In the first part of the lesson pupils are distributed with their learning folders, including jotters, journals & year overview of learning map & success criteria for each unit. Seats are allocated and general welcome to the R.E. department is given. The teacher then goes on to explain how within the school they place a special emphasis on prayer as a way of punctuating the school day and the school year. Pupils are asked to answer out with the types and times of prayer that they had in primary school. After this discussion they are asked to consider why prayer is so important throughout the day. The teacher shows a slide show with music which explores the importance of prayer in our daily lives and in the lives of the Church. Following on from this presentation the teacher explains the daily prayer routines of the school and re-emphasises the reasons behind these daily habits. The lesson continues with a discussion of the dos in R.E. The teacher explains that the class will decide on all of the things that they should do in order to make the R.E. class a place of learning for all, where each person is treated with dignity, respect and tolerance and where they actively put into practice Jesus teaching of love thy neighbour. In groups the class come up with which dos they think should be

included. The class then discuss, negotiate and agree on the final 5. They record these on the inside pages of their jotters. Finally the teacher explains the personal journal and the map of the year.
