It is important therefore that Standards users ensure that they are in possession of the latest editi on, and any amendments thereto. Full details of all Australi an Standards and related publications will be found in the Standards Australia Catalogue of Publications; this informati on is supplemented each month by the magazine The Australi an Standard, which subscribing members receive, and which gives details of new publi cati ons, new edit ions and amendments, and of withdrawn Standards. Suggesti ons for improvements to Australian Standards, addressed to the head off ice of Standards Australi a, are welcomed. Noti fi cati on of any inaccuracy or ambiguity found in an Australian Standard should be made without delay in order that the matter may be investigated and appropriate action taken.

SECTION 1 FORMATS
1.1 GENERAL A Standard is to be prepared in one of the following formats: (a) Format A A Standard in Format A has a cover, an inside front cover, a title page, text, an inside back cover, and a back cover (see Clause 1.2). (b) Format B A Standard in Format B has no cover, no title page and no back cover (see Clause 1.3).
NOTES: 1 Format B is used where there are many Standards (methods of test) in a series and where many of those Standards consist of 1 to 4 pages (A4). 2 A series of Format B Standards may be headed by a Format A Standard, e.g. AS XXXX.019XX, (main titl e), Part O: Introduction and li st of methods.

(c) Format CA Standard in Format C is a clone of another publication (usually an International Standard). Format C differs from Format A in that the majority of the core text is photographically reproduced from the parent Standard (see Clause 1.4).
NOTE: Where necessary, a series of Format C Standards may be introduced by a Standard which contains a general introduction, or application requirements and listing. This Standard is designated Part O and is bound as for a Format A Standard.

This is a free 7 page sample. Access the full version at http://infostore.saiglobal.com.

Interim Standards may be drafted in the appropriate one of the above formats. 1.2 FORMAT A 1.2.1 Sequence of pages The sequence of pages for a draft in Format A is shown in Figure 1.1. The form and content of the cover pages change at the major changes of stage but the form, content, and page numbers of the core text are not affected by the transition from stage to stage; this material is only affected by Committee decisions. The core text always starts on Page 2 which is always the Preface. Cover pages are described in Clause 1.2.2 and core-text pages in Clause 1.2.3. 1.2.2 Cover pages At all stages a draft is introduced by a cover page. For the committee stages (including Pre-postal Ballot, Postal Ballot and Pre-publication), the cover page is called the Committee Introduction or COM INTRO page. For the comment stage, it is called the Draft for Comment or DR TITLE page. For a draft at the comment stage, there is also an inside back cover page which carries the list of interests responsible for preparing the draft. This is called the DR INSIDE BACK COVER page. 1.2.3 Core-text pages The core-text pages are as follows: (a) Preface The Preface always commences on Page 2. For guidance on content see Clause 3.3. For examples see Appendix A. (b) List of contents The list of contents follows the Preface on the following page. For guidance on make-up see Clause 3.4. For examples see Appendix B. (c) Foreword A Foreword is optional. Where included, it follows the list of contents and is always on a separate page. For guidance on content, see Clause 4.1. (d) Text 1 page The Text 1 page carries the title of the Standard and the first clauses. For an example, see Appendix C. (e) Text last page The Text last page is the very last page of the core text, including appendices or an index, or both. Below the last line of text on the Text last page a line is ruled and below that the words *** END OF DRAFT *** are inserted. For an example, see Appendix D. 1.3 FORMAT B 1.3.1 Sequence of pages The sequence of pages for a draft in Format B is shown in Figure 1.2. The format and content of the cover pages change at the major changes of stage, but the format, content and page numbers of the core text are not affected by the transition from stage to stage; this material is affected only by Committee decisions. The core text starts on Page 2, which is the Text 1 page. 1.3.2 Cover pages (See Clause 1.2.2.) 1.3.3 Core text pages The core text pages are as follows: (a) Text 1 page. The Text 1 page carries the generic AS number of the Standard (if known) immediately below the words Australian Standard (if not known, then AS XXXX) followed by the title of the Standard. Below the title the first clauses of the method appear, or, at the authors discretion, a Preface, a list of contents and a Foreword may precede the text.
