All of Us - #563 by Fr. Larry "Wow! It looks great!" "Unbelievable!" "What a difference!" "It looks so much brighter and bigger." "It certainly smells better." "It looks fresh and clean." "They did a nice job fixing the chandeliers." "I like the way the sanctuary looks." "The blue in the rose window in the choir loft really pops." "Now you can tell how bad the carpet is." "I see that the Our Lady of Perpetual Help shrine has been relocated by the Reconciliation rooms." These are just a handful of comments that I heard from parishioners last Saturday and Sunday as I stood in the back of church after Masses. This was our first weekend back since the beginning of June when the construction and painting started on the interior of the church. The response of parishioners has been positive. There is a feeling of excitement in the air as we move closer each week to the completion of this phase of the project. Now we will see things taking shape and coming together more and more, right before our eyes. Again, I thank you for your patience and support. Personally, for me, it felt good to celebrate Mass once again in church, especially after several weeks in the gym. The biggest thing I noticed was that the echo that we naturally hear in a big church like ours, was missing when we were across the street due to the low ceiling and tight space of the gym. Our prayer seems to ascend better to our God in heaven when we are in church. We have much to be grateful for, because we are blessed to have a beautiful and sacred place to worship and celebrate our Catholic faith.
It has taken a lot of hard work and planning to get us to this point. Initial conversations and meetings about restoring our church date all the way back to the fall of 2009, some three years ago. You will notice in the bulletin that we are still short of reaching our overall capital campaign goal by some $200,000. Right now, the $801,950 pledged represents only 28% of our total registered parishioners; 710 families have made a commitment to our capital campaign entitled, "Our Faith, Our Gift, Our Home." I ask for those families who have not yet made an annual pledge to support the recent improvements of our church, to prayerfully consider this week how they might be able to generously share their gifts and resources with our parish. Also, I hope that the improvements to our church will help to enhance the way we pray as a community of faith. What I mean by this is, I hope that the beauty of this sacred space will inspire us to participate more fully and actively in the Mass. May we sing louder in our love for the Lord. May our responses be more passionate and convincing to God. May the moments of silence in the liturgy help us to be more reflective of God's grace working in our lives. May we deepen our sense of mystery and awe that comes with being in the presence of Christ at the Eucharist. May our appreciation and understanding for the Eucharist strengthen our commitment as we walk out the doors of church to serve the Lord in our daily lives. We can have the best looking church in the Archdiocese of Chicago, but, if our prayer is lukewarm, flat and lifeless, then we would have clearly missed the purpose of caring for our historic church building. Europe is filled with lots of beautiful historic churches that are empty on the inside because of a lack of believers. I have walked into many churches that would remind you of quiet museums rather than great faith-filled places of worship filled with music, song and prayer. We are the ones who will bring life to the bricks and mortar that surround us on Sunday. A Time to Rest Our nation celebrates Labor Day on Monday. It's a national holiday created and designated to provide rest for the worker. I do hope it is a quiet and peaceful day for

you and your family as we try to hold on to the beauty of these summer days. But Labor Day also raises our awareness and concern for those who are unemployed and struggling to find work. These are stressful and uncertain times for their families. Our Helping Hands program not only provides food for those in need, but it also has limited financial resources to temporarily help someone in dire straits with their monthly bills. Often the situation is that we just have to help them "get over the hump." We are blessed by the generosity of parishioners who have helped to support this fund through donations apart from their regular Sunday contributions. If you would like to do the same, please designate your offering to the St. Cyril's Helping Hands Fund. Whatever you can do will go a long way for a family that is struggling. Here Come the Brides! I opened a file cabinet this week and had to do a "double take." I saw a stack of files for the upcoming weddings here at St. Cyril's. Between now and November 1st, we have nineteen weddings to be celebrated in church. There will be a lot of activity going on around here on Saturdays. I have a hunch that our church will continue to be a popular place for couples to celebrate a Catholic wedding. Weddings at St. Cyril's are usually booked at least a year in advance. There are several Archdiocesan requirements that are a part of the preparation process. If there might be an engagement happening in your family, it would be prudent to have the engaged couple contact the rectory early so that they can have a conversation with one of the priests. Our staff has a reputation for going out of its way in assisting the engaged couple to their actual wedding day. At one of the last meetings I had with a bride and groom, I finished their final paperwork. The bride said to me, "Father with all that we have to do for the wedding, I just want you to know that the church was the easiest part of the whole thing."

Dear Parents, This coming Wednesday, September 5th, our school family will gather together in church to celebrate the beginning of our new year in prayer. Members of our staff will participate, and following Communion, our students will join in pledging to work together with their new Faith Partner. We are excited to welcome some new faces into our school along with seeing a familiar face in a new role! Mr. Paul Smith is now also working as our Assistant Principal along with teaching 4th grade. We also have Miss Katey Wagner teaching kindergarten and Miss Kara Sedlack in our preschool. We are fortunate to have these changes to our teaching staff! We have settled into a very productive daily routine. It is truly wonderful to start each day by watching our students enter the building. Our new year is definitely off to a fantastic beginning! My visits to classrooms have found our students and teachers involved in a variety of activities. The hard work of the entire staff is evident along with our students enthusiasm in all of the successful projects and activities we already have happening. Please remember to register and use TeacherEase, our grading/communication program. It is a great way to quickly share news and information. Also, our homework online will not change, you can access it the same way you did last year. Thank you for your attendance at our Parent Open House. I hope it was informative and enjoyable! Remember to communicate with your childs teacher as necessary. Any questions or concerns you may have can be quickly addressed. Happenings This Week: Monday, Sept. 3rd: No School. Tuesday, Sept. 4th: School photos (K-8) and school begins for PreK 3. Wednesday, Sept. 5th: Opening Mass and school begins for PreK 4.

Thank You!
On Tuesday, August 28th, one of our parishioners loaded up his truck with school supplies and delivered them to our sharing parish St. Adalberts. Thank you to all who donated school supplies this year! We not only helped St. Adalberts but also families who we help locally through our Helping Hands food donation program. We are truly blessed to have such generous parishioners!
The work of SPRED is to form a small faith group in which there is a one-on-one relationship with each of our six friends with intellectual or developmental challenges, down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder or learning problems. We have four adult volunteers who have said Yes, and four more. A SPRED volunteer is trained so they are comfortable with the program and can truly be a role model to their friends. We also want to know all the parents in our parish who have a son/daughter with special needs no matter their age or abilities, from newborn well into their 80s. All interested people and parents are invited to a SPRED Informational Gathering on Monday, September 17th at 7 PM in our schools teachers lounge. To be a volunteer, one does not need any experience with people with developmental or intellectual challenges and learning problems. SPRED does not involve teaching, a classroom setting or homework. It is about becoming more aware of the Lords presence in our everyday world. What you give to the Lord he will give back a hundredfold.
Welcome Back to School and our beautiful Church! Over the summer months, our shelves in Helping Hands have been depleted. We need your help to stock up for the fall and winter months. Helping Hands collects food to distribute to members of the Lemont community. Grocery bags are available in the back of church to remind you to consider picking up items on your next grocery visit to return to church. Monetary donations are also greatly appreciated. We are always in need of non-perishable foods like canned soups and vegetables, pasta, sauces, chili, tuna, cereal and baking and pancake mixes. We also need non-food items such as paper towels, napkins, soaps (hand, dish and laundry), shampoo, mouthwash and toothpaste. Thank you for your support and generosity!

Reminder About Background Checks and Protecting Gods Children Workshops Please remember that the Archdiocese of Chicago is requiring all volunteers who work with children in our parish, parish school, school sports program and religious education program to go through a background check and attend the Protecting Gods Children workshop. The background check and the workshop are two separate things and are found at two different websites. Several of these workshops are being held at nearby parishes over the summer and in the fall. The dates and times are listed below. Please remember that you need to register online at www.virtus.org before attending the workshop. If you cannot make one of these workshops then you will need to go to a different parish than the ones listed below to attend the workshop. A complete listing of the different sites for these workshops can be found at the VIRTUS website. If you have any questions or would like a packet of information to help you register for the background check and the workshop please call Trish Nickleski at 630-257-9314. marry Catholics want to share not only their lives and values, but also their faith.
i Young parents who are expecting
their first born or have children starting school often find that this is the time to join a faith community that will help them find God in their lives and establish moral values in their family.
i People who are baptized either in the Catholic faith or
another Christian religion, but were not brought up or educated in the religion. As the years go by, they may seek to return to their Christian roots.
i People from all backgrounds that are seeking God in
their liveslooking for answers to life and death questions. The Catholic Church offers great traditions of Scripture, the worship of God in vibrant liturgies, intellectual studies of theology, joyful celebrations through the Sacraments, care for the sick and the dying and love and hope for the poor of the world. How Does a Person Become Catholic? The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is a process by which the Catholic Church welcomes new members into its communal life. The RCIA is a living experience of the Church, and not just a series of classes which teach knowledge about the Church. Although there is instruction in the facts of the faith, instruction is but one part of a larger experience of knowing and sharing with other members of the Church. Who is RCIA for? It is for non-Christian men and women; for Christians that are not Catholic; for Catholics who are baptized, but have no religious training. How Can I Join? The Catholic churches in Lemont work together in this experience. Contact Fr. Larry or Doreen at (630) 2572414 and watch the bulletins for further details. New Group Now Forming for Fall

College Connection
Lemont Tri-Parish Youth Ministry has introduced a new program called the College Connection. The program is designed to keep a connection to students leaving home and their parishes through mail that will be sent to them while they are away at school. Students will receive bulletins, care packages, prayers and other surprises sent to their mailboxes while away at school. To be a part of the program email Mike Lundberg (Tri-Parish Youth Minister) at lemontyouthm@sbcglobal.net with the name and school address of the student that would like to participate.
