Looking through the Meaningful Learning Experience

At the end of this activity, the students will be able to identify and describe the teachers activity and the behavior of the learners in these activities.

My Target

After observing the principles of teaching and learning in the classroom setting, you will now start to journey through methods, strategies and approaches of teaching and learning by first observing the actual classroom teaching. To hit my Target, I must work my way through this step: My Way

Step 4: Reflect on your experience.

Step 3: Confer with the teacher regarding observable and significant events . Step 2: Record and highlight observable and significant event(s) in such teaching-learning activities and events.

Step 1: Make a journal about the tasks performed by the teachers as they teach their lesson noting patterns and variety.

As you visit a school and observe the teaching-learning practices, use the activity forms to document your observation and write your insights or reflection. MY JOURNAL Description of Teaching Strategies: By just merely looking into a single educational institution we can already conclude that there are numerous teachers, which simply means that there are also numerous Teaching strategies being used and being applied. The very first moment that I ever encounter this so called teaching strategies I thought that this are the best methods to do in teaching, applying theories and the things that they thought us, but in reality there are no fixed teaching strategies, theories are also seemingly not applicable. Why? For the simple reason that every class room situations are unique from one another, therefore they must be treated also into different manners that will suit to the current situation and needs of the student. I do remember one of the classroom observation that I did there is this student who ask a question to her teacher during discussion and with that simple question everything turn different from what it is intended, which is a manifestation that there are no specific strategy in teaching, those things that we are learning now are just the ideal ones, but when it comes to the point that we are already in the field everything will be just based upon our discretion. Description of Learning Activities: In deciding to what learning activities to conduct during class proper you need to consider the ff. factors; topic, class situation, individual differences of the students, resources, environment and the mood of the class (look into them as a whole), this factors will help you choose what type of learning is effective during that class setting. As I am repeatedly saying every day is a scene and you as the learning facilitator must have the full control of things. Description of Learners Participation (portion of learners who participated and quality of participation): Your name is different from mine, from him and to everyone; therefore you are not that person because you are you. This is one of the best quotations that I ever heard from a friend and yes it is completely true. Every person differs to another which means they also have different needs, so as to our students. They may be labeled according to their performance in class, they might be put into pairs, but still these students have their own distinguish characteristics. This is a clear evidence of the principle of individual differences, in a class there are students who will be actively participating during discussion, students who are just in the corner waiting for the clock to strike 9 for their break time, some are raising their hands and answers miles away from the topic just to catch the attention of everybody, there are this student who are chatting with their seatmates not even considering that the teacher is talking in front and many more.(I am talking base on the different classroom observations that I conducted) You as the teacher cant assure that there will always be a 100% participation from your students, here comes the proper classroom management a teacher must perform. This is to assure that every single student knew those things that you are trying to teach them.

Teaching is not just a profession or a source of living, but it is a vocation This are the exact words given by the priest during his homily last Sunday, he was saying that teachers are also one of the modern heroes nowadays, for the simple reason that they were dedicating their life and services just to impart knowledge to our youth. He also said that in this field there is no money, that he hasnt even encountered a single teacher who claims that he earning a luxurious life by merely teaching. But why do we teach? Why are we in this field? Honestly being a teacher is my last option in my life, I was thinking of being a doctor, a surgeon, a nurse, a medical technologist, a news anchor, a journalist or just putting my own business. But one day I woke up seeing myself going to RCC and taking up BSEd English? What happen to those dreams of mine? Well at first I was forced by my mom and I really felt like I loosed my appetite to study, because I know for the fact that my dreams were inclined to the medical world but with just that simple words coming from my mom everything turned out to be different. During my first semester taking this course I did really had hard time focusing myself to our lessons. Two semesters had past but still I cant even imagine that I will be standing in front of those high school students and teach them this and tell them that, I felt like I was really out of my way. But when I enrolled FS and conducted my first class room observation, it felt so good, I enjoyed every single moment that I spend inside the classroom. I have the idea of the big differences when it comes to experiences of being the teacher and being the student. The feeling that every teachers feels whenever she sees he students learning, the relief that you will have when you see good out comes to those sleepless nights you spend preparing for your IMs and lesson plan. Its all worth it. After all of those observations I just find myself being exited to wear those uniforms with the logo of DEPEd at the collar, thinking what school I should apply first after my graduation. Imagining what are the best strategies that I will use in every class room scenario, looking into the individual differences of the high school students of today, and loving this profession. Probably this is really my destiny and Gods calling for me. These are the thing that I learned from every observations that I did beyond those strategies, methods and principles which are written in every teaching profession book. It is not about the money rather it is how you can influence the life of your students. It is not about being famous but it is seeing your students appreciate every single effort that you are doing. It is not about the material things that you can have but its the very moment that you see your former student being successful, knowing that one day you became part of that success. Emotions are over flowing from me especially now that I find myself. Words are not enough to express how I feel. But the best thing is that now I LOVE TEACHING. This course thought me things that are beyond the things written in the book.
