INFORMATION BROCHURE - 2012 FOR ADMISSION TO B.

COM F IRST YEAR IN COLLEGES AT CHANDIGARH (INCLUDING DEPARTMENT OF EVENING STUDIES) AND LUDHIANA

IMPORTANT NOTES
1. Candidates

are

required

to

fill

online application

form

available at

website

bcomadmissions.puchd.ac.in.
2. Before filling up the online form candidates should clearly understand the procedure of

allotment of seats as given in examples. Admission will be based on merit cum preferences.
3. The candidate has to lock each and every section (Profile, Categories, Subjects,

Preferences etc) under their login, without which the candidate cannot take print out.
4. Candidates should carefully fill the options and all possible preferences (minimum six). No

change in preferences will be allowed at any stage after you have locked information.
5. After completing the online form, candidates are required to take printout of

the

application form and then send the same duly signed, through registered/speed post or submit it by hand to Prof. S.K. Chadha University Business School, Arts Block-3, Sector-14, Panjab University, Chandigarh (160014). The form can also be submitted by hand at PU regional Centre, Civil Lines, Ludhiana
6. A Demand Draft of Rs. 150 (Rs 75 for SC/ST) for applying in Ludhiana or Chandigarh

and Rs. 250 (Rs. 125 for SC/ST) if applying for both Chandigarh and Ludhiana in favour of Coordinator B. Com. Admissions, Panjab University, payable at Chandigarh. No draft is required from physically handicapped candidates. Write your name and application number on the back side of draft.
7. A candidate can apply for Chandigarh or Ludhiana or both. 8. The candidates belonging to the reserved categories should submit the copy of documents

duly signed by the competent authority in support thereof along with application.
9. The candidate applying under sports category (UT Pool) must enclose their gradation

certificates from UT for Chandigarh Colleges. However, candidates applying in General Pool (other then UT Pool) in Chandigarh colleges and for colleges situated in Ludhiana, certificate from competent authority is required.

10. Attach self-attested copies of the following certificates along with Application Form, failing

which the application is will be rejected. Matriculation Certificate showing date of birth. 10+2 Detailed Marks Card (Both semesters if semester system) Character Certificate from the institution last attended Certificates in proof of claim in respect of reserved category, if any.

Affidavit attested by the Magistrate 1 Class, explaining the gap in studies, if any.

11. The Form, complete in all respects, should reach at University Business School latest by

30.6.2012

(5.00P.M.)

Online process will be closed at 3.00 P.M. on 28.06.2012. No late applicant shall be considered.
12. Candidates are advised to carefully read and follow the instructions given on the website

http://bcomadmissions.puchd.ac.in regularly.
13. Separate Merit lists for Chandigarh and Ludhiana Colleges will be displayed tentatively on

04-07-2012 on the website http://comadmissions.puchd.ac.in


14. Objections, if any, should be reported at bcomadmissions@pu.ac.in by 06.7.2012 (3.00 P.M)

or to coordinator, B.Com-I admissions by hand.


15. Final Merit List will be displayed on 8.7.2012 on the website bcomadmissions.puchd.ac.in. 16. The admission schedule along with the venue for depositing fee will be displayed along with

the list of selected candidates on the website bcomadmissions.puchd.ac.in. (Tentatively on 11th July, 2012). No separate letters for counseling/admission will be issued.
17. Only selected candidates should attend the admission process in person and on the given

date(s), timing(s) and venue.


18. The candidate should bring with them the following ORIGINAL documents and one set of

photocopy of the documents at the time of admission in their respective college. a. 10+2 Certificate of the Board concerned b. Matriculation Certificate, Certificate of the date of birth c. Proof for claim of reserved category ,if any

d. Affidavit attested by the Magistrate 1 Class, explaining the gap in studies, if any e. Character Certificate from the Institution last attended
19. For consideration in U.T. pool for Chandigarh Colleges, candidate must submit the proof

of attending +2 class from schools situated in Chandigarh.

20. Admission will be based on merit cum preference basis (see examples). 21. If a candidate does not report on the specific date/date for admission in the allotted college,

it is implied that he/she is not interested in admission in that college and colleges with lower preferences. .The seat will be offered to next candidate on merit cum preference basis in the next movement list which shall be made available on website. The movement list will be released within 5 days of release of first list or the previous movement list, as the case may be.
22. A candidate will be offered seat in movement list only for his/her higher preference seat is

available.
23. The fee deposited for one college will be refundable as per rules if he/she gets

admission in other college of his/her higher preference through this admission process.
24. The university will hold manual counseling after first counseling and first movement.

During the manual counseling preference given in online counseling will not remain valid.
25. Any seat(s) left vacant against the reserved category shall be dereserved and added to the

general category seats during the manual counseling. However, those reserved category candidates who come in open merit will be considered for General pool and these seats will be given to next eligible candidate in their respective reserved category in a given college.

Eligibility for admission to B. Com First Year


The admission to B.Com Course from the session 2012-13 shall be made according to the provisions, PU calendar Vol.II, 2007, Page 324, Para 3.1 3.1(A) Admission to the first year of B .Com (General) degree course shall be open to a person who has passed one of the following examinations conducted by a recognized board/council/university. (i) +2 Examination or B.Com Part I (old scheme) of Panjab University with three of the following subject securing at least 40 % marks in aggregate. Commerce (or theory of commerce, or foundation course in commerce) Accountancy (or Book keeping and Accountancy) Economics Mathematics (or statistics) Business Organization (or Business Management, or Theory and Practices of Management) Insurance (or General Insurance or Life Insurance) Banking and Trade Commercial Geography Office Management and Secretarial Practice (or Office Organization and Management) Mercantile Law (or Company law) Auditing Typewriting and Stenography / Computers (for type writing) (ii) +2 Examination or B.Com Part I (old scheme) of Panjab University with at least two of the following subject mentioned in 3.1 A (i) securing at least 45 % marks in aggregate. (iii) +2 examination or B.A Part I /B.Sc. Part I/ Pre-Engineering /Pre Medical Examination of the Panjab University under the old scheme not covered in 3.1 A(ii) securing at least 50% marks. (iv) Any other examination recognized by the University as equivalent to 3.1 A (i) or 3.1 A (ii) or 3.1 A (iii) as given above with requisite percentage of marks given under each clause. Provided that a candidate seeking admission to the first year of B. Com. should have passed in the subject of English at the +2 examination and in cases where passing in English is not necessary according to the regulation of certain Board/Bodies/councils/Universities in India, the admission of the candidate shall be provisional and will be confirmed only after he has cleared the subject of English as a deficient subject from the parent Board /Body/Council/University in two consecutive chances subsequent to his admission. Provided further that: A candidate who has been placed under compartment in the +2 examination conducted by Board / Body/Council/University in India shall be eligible to seek admission to the Ist year of B.Com course, provided he fulfills the following conditions: He should have been placed in compartment in one subject only. He should have obtained at least 20% marks in the subject in which he had been placed in compartment and He should have obtained the requisite percentage of mark in the aggregate of the examination as laid down in the relevant, regulations.

In brief, minimum eligibility marks are as follows: 3.1 (B) DETERMINATION OF MERIT (i) Merit is to be determined on the basis of score for which the percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in the qualifying examination is the basic or starting score. The percentage should be worked out to the advantage of student. Where a student has appeared in more papers than the number of papers required to qualify the examination, best marks should be taken.

(ii) Weightage under 3.1 B(ii) should be given for all the papers cleared from the list of papers mentioned in 3.1 A (i) restricting the maximum weightage score to 16. The score is to be added, even if, the paper is an additional paper passed by the candidate. Qualifying Examination 10+2 with atleast 3 subjects from list given in 3.1A(i) OR 10+2 with atleast two commerce subjects OR 10+2 with subjects not covered above 50% 45% 40% Percentage

EXAMPLE A student from CBSE/ICSE has appeared in 6 papers instead of 5 with following marks: English (Compulsory) 70 Elective Economics 75 Business Studies 75 Accounting 80 Maths 60 Physical education 80 Step (i) Calculation of basic scores: English compulsory 70 Add best four out of electives Economics 75 Business Studies 75 Accounting 80 Physical Education 80 Total 380 out of 500 Basic score = 380 x100 = 76% 500 Step (ii) a) Identification of papers (listed subjects) b) Number of papers passed from the list is 4 (Economics, Business studies, Accounting, Maths), therefore Score to be added is 16%. Step (iii) Total score for merit is 76%+16%=92% For Other School Boards Total marks will be considered for calculation of merit and subject weightage will be given as shown in the above example.

Preference based Admission


Example 1: If a candidate with rank 3 give preferences in colleges as under College College_Name_3 College_Name_1 College_Name_6 College_Name_2 College_name_5 Preferences 3 2 4 5 1

If seats are available in College_Name_5 he/she shall be offered admission only in College_Name_5. His options for other colleges automatically get consumed. If he does not deposit the fee in College_Name_5 course it is presumed that he is not interested in admission. Example 2: If a candidate with rank 356 gives preferences in courses as under

If seats are filled in courses like College_Name_5, College_Name_1 but seats are available in other colleges of his/her preferences, he/she shall be offered admission in course in College_Name_4 (i.e., 3th preference). If he does not deposit fee in College_Name_4 it will be presumed that he/she is not interested in admission in PU colleges of with his/her 3rd, and lower order preferences.
Example 3: If a candidate with rank 356 in general category and rank 12 in any of the reserved category, has given preferences in courses as under Course College_Name_5 College_Name_1 College_Name_6 College_Name_2 College_Name_4. College_Name_3 Preferences 3 2 4 5 1 6

If on merit the candidate is getting seat in general category in College_Name_3 (his last preference) and in College_Name_1 (2nd Preference) in reserved category he/she shall be offered admission in College_Name_1 . However if he/she is getting seat in same college under reserved and general category, he/she shall be offered admission under general category.
