- kUrt schreiter, Physics PhD stuDent

on the cover when Manjana went looking to start her Phd, she investigated universities around the world. until she discovered waterloo and knew it was the perfect fit for her unconventional research. examining how climate negotiators make decisions, her work combines fields as diverse as international relations, global governance, social psychology and even cognitive sciences.

at waterloo, im able to use methods that are not quite conventional or standard for most schools. it allows a lot more creativity.

theres never a set path for research, so academic freedom is absolutely essential for a researcher to grow. the freedom i find here at waterloo is fantastic.

discover freedom Heavy, lead x-ray shield aprons may someday be a thing of the past. Shruti Nambiar, a System design engineering Phd student, is developing a new material that combines flexible polymer and nanoparticles. the goal? to create a non-toxic, lighter shield to be worn by patients and clinical personnel when working around harmful x-rays.
