Pachim KTanim from Rabbi Yudin : In honor of Parashas Haazinu and the forthcoming Yom Tov of Sukkos: A loving father even if at times that he has to rebuke his children, it is still a "Semol Docheik" and "Yemin Mekareiv"; with his left hand he chastises and with his right hand he embraces. Similarly, while Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are in our best interest these are days of stress, Sukkos is a time that immediately after the solemnity, we are invited to celebrate with Hashem. The Shulchan Aruch (639:1) is very clear that one should eat, drink and sleep in the Sukkah the entire seven days as he does in his home throughout the year. It is interesting to note that different practices have enjoyed greater observances at different times. The Mordechai (13th century) writes that most people did not sleep in the Sukkah because of the cold weather. The Rama (639:2) felt that the Sukkah was not private enough for a man to sleep there with his wife. However, all this applies at night. I strongly recommend that if one is able or inclined on Yom Tov to take a nap during the day, that should be in the Sukkah. The same Shulchan Aruch that allows a snack outside the Sukkah, forbids even napping outside. The reason being a snack is not satisfying, but often even a short nap can invigorate. Personally, napping in the Sukkah, how sweet it is!
