Task Aims-GCSE F- Working at this level you will aim to show your understanding of surrealist ideas and how artists like Magritte created surreal images. Your teacher will give you advice on developing your ideas and your painting will describe visually.

Dreamlike Irrational

A room drawn out using one point perspective You will have developed ideas for example from a collage of magazine images, including surreal ideas for wallpaper. Included a larger than life object, which shows recognisable features of the object such as colour, shade, surface texture. It will have a sense of about it so it looks as though it is in the room 3Dness. You will have done 1 preparatory drawing for this. You will show a developing ability in drawing and controlling paint to depict images. You will have a finished image You will have some evidence of looking at surrealist artists for example sticking some examples of their work in your sketchbook and saying why you did or didnt like their work.

Task Aims-GCSE C- Working at this level you show that you have a
strong awareness of surrealism and the kind of ideas and subject matter that informed the artwork of Magritte and the other surrealists. You will develop your ideas fairly independently, but you may need to ask advice from your teacher. You should aim to include the following evidence in your picture.

Surreal ideas developed from a collage and observational drawings. Your painting will be accurate in terms of scale and proportion. You will show that you understand how to use one point perspective to create the illusion of 3D in your room You will uses paint accurately and thoughtfully to describe the visual ideas in your painting showing that you have observed how some artists achieve their effects and intentions. You will have used colour, tone and shade in your painting to bring out the different qualities and features of your ideas and objects. Your painting will show evidence of reflection and a personally developed response from looking at the artwork of other surrealist artists. You will have collected some examples of their work and described briefly the techniques and ideas they have used to create their work.

high awareness of the ideas that lie behind the surrealist philosophy. You will show that you can explore and develop ideas fairly independently and justify to your teacher the reasons for your choices and decisions.

Your image will show a thoughtful, carefully controlled and carefully executed image Your recorded observations will show a controlled and sensitive use of paint that shows accurately the visual qualities of your objects and other visual source material such as shape, form, colour and surface pattern. Your painting will have strong sense of your own personality and ideas Your image will provide evidence that you have been informed by the artwork of other artists. You will have collected a wide range of images from and source material including other artists work and shown that you have explored their techniques and processes, this will be evidenced through experiments and preparatory studies. You may have annotated your source material with relevant visual vocabulary that artists would understand to communicate their ideas. Your painting will show a definite sense of purpose for its intended visual audience.
