INTRODUCTION
Note: If you do not require an Introduction section, you may delete this section.
However, if you do delete it, you must reformat the page number located in the footer of
the first page of the section that immediately follows the Introduction section. To
reformat the page number, follow these directions: First, scroll down to the section after
the Introduction. (If you want a Part I section in your paper, go to Part I. If you need
neither an Introduction nor a Part I section, then go to Chapter 1.) Second, double-click
on the page number located in the footer (bottom) of the first page of this section. This
will bring up the “Header and Footer” dialog box. Click on the “Format Page Number”
icon, and this will bring up the “Page Number Format” dialog box. In this dialog box
under “Page Numbering” select “Start at: 1.” Then click “OK.” The page numbering will

General instructions: This template has been simplified to remove all the
continuous section breaks that use to be after chapter titles. When you get to the end of a
chapter, simply enter a “section break-next page” under the Insert tab. The 2” margin at
the top of the page is included in the style for the chapter heading. We trust this will be

REFERENCES CITED
Note: When working on your dissertation, you will want to remove the pages that will be
your index and Vita. They are now formatted in a second template. When you finally
complete your dissertation you will create a separate document that is just the text of your
dissertation. You can use this to create your index. Add the general index and scriptural
index (if needed), and your Vita to this working document. You will add these to the end
of your final dissertation document only after everything else is done and you do not need
to add any more references.
