Olivia Barber Jan Rieman English 1101 November 18, 2012 Reading Response Questions for Portfolio Keeping

by Reynolds and Rice Please type up your responses in a Word doc, carefully editing and proofreading, and then paste them into the forum in the Assignment Submissions block on Moodle.

1. Based on what you know so far about portfolios (from the portfolio guidelines, from your own experience, from any research you have done), what is your definition of a writers portfolio? - Just from what I know a writers portfolio is something that keeps all the work that the writer has done. 2. Reynolds and Rice ask: What word or phrase best describes your work in this course? What are some overarching metaphors that could symbolize your work and your efforts in the course that you might use? Think of three possibilities. - I dont understand this question.

3. The reflective writing you do in your portfolio is some of your most important writing of the course. As Reynolds and Rice note, Reflective components show your ability to be a reflective learner and to analyze a rhetorical situation effectively. They explain your choices in compiling the portfolio and demonstrate your thinking about your learning. After reading Reynoldss and Rices section on Preparing to Write the Introduction, what do you know about reflective work that you did not know before? What is its purpose? - Reflective work is what you do after you are finished with your work and you go back and reflect what youve done. I learned it takes a strong person to be able to go and write about if their work was their best or not what they planned. Its purpose is go make a better writer out of yourself and be able to tell yourself that you can do better.

4. Give Reynoldss and Rices definition of Revising, Editing, and Proofreading. Use quotation marks to indicate your direct quote. Then, list some strategies you will use to do each of these activities. -Revise: to see again I will read over my paragraphs one at a time and see if everything is flowing the way I want it to and if I want to change something or not. I will move around things if necessary and make sure I have everything that is needed in the work. -Editing: working through the text in a systematic way I will fix all the grammar and spelling mistakes that I may have made. -Proofreading: Youre looking for mistakes and errors and flaws in formatting

This is when I will do my final read through of my paper to make everything is perfect and exactly how I want it. Also, just to make sure all my editing and revision is good as well. 5. What questions do you have about this portfolio work you are about to do? - I am awful with computers so I am just going to have so many questions about that. What is it going to take to get an A? Are we writing more papers? Am I going to be overwhelmed?
