The Rule of Santri in National Development

Assalamualaikum wr.wb. Respectable chair man Honorable audience Honorable ladies and gentlemen My all brothers and sisters First, let us thank God very much for many blessing given to us, so that we are always health and have power to do activities every day. And this morning, we can smile and be together without any obstacle. Amen,,, May praise of God always given to the our great prophet who changed the world from Jahiliyah to be Islamiyah, and also we hope His mediation in future. Amen.. Honorable audience, In this period, everything is changed. Start from human behavior till to technology development. It makes human thinking about future that may be sophisticated. It can be seen in our environment. People use car and motorcycle as transportations instruments. Then in the formal school like junior and senior high school have been using modern tool for their learning. For example computer, LCD, and so on. In national development that requires all of sides to follow this modern period. And often it influences the rule of school. For instance, in some schools there are required to buy note book for each student because more exercises in these school must use internet access. So how about in Islamic boarding schools that applies a traditional behavior. Lets see the activities of santri in Islamic boarding school. They still behave like people in 1900s that dont know technology more. It can be said that they just eat, study and sleep every day. Whereas in the salaf Islamic boarding school, its the most traditional of all. In their life just seeing old books that are hundreds in age. They only focus to get sciences from their study and obey all of rule there, include they must obey to the their master ask. it is the rule as santri. Further, usually in an Islamic boarding school, its banned to use electronic tools such as HP, television, and etc,

because it can disturb santris concentration during learning and studying holy books. If administrators know that santri breaks this rule, there will be a punishment for him. Its a common scenery we see in each Islamic boarding school. Honorable ladies and gentlemen, Now we know the behavior of santri in Islamic boarding school generally. The raised problem now is about the rule. Must the rule of santri in the Islamic boarding school be changed dealing with national development? So what part must be changed? Actually the rule of santri can be equal with the national development. Now is modern era that all of thing we do cannot be separated with technology. So it is not a fault that santri also learns about technology more. Whereas it is very good way to develop santris science and knowledge. In an Arabic adage was said: Subanul yaum rijalul ghod The youth today is for future generation It means that the rising generation will be the leader in the future for this country. So as repeating generation, the youth must have science. Not only in religion but also in technology. If santri has these science, it will be better because who want to success in the world, he must has science. Then who wants to get success in hereafter life, he must has science. It is like what prophet Muhammad ever said: man arodaddunya fa alaihi bil ilmi, wa man arodal akhiroh fa alaihi bil ilmi, wa man aroda huma, fa alaihi bil ilmi Its very clear that santri as the rising generation in the future must has these sciences. In brief, the rule of santri will be better to be changed that appropriate to the national development, because there are many benefits that can be got by santri. Not only for hereafter life, santri must learn a science dealing with modern era and technology development. It can be santris provisions to face the challenge in the future. But the important point to know that it needs a good management of administrators and a lot of care from the master, so that it can walk as the hope. It means that in national development, santri must develop their experiences, skill and science not only on religion, but also in technology.
