Thepurposeofthisexperimentwasmetandthehypotheseswerecorrect.Afterthis experiment,itwasconcludedthatbothSodiumChlorideandSodiumSulfideareheld togetherbyionicbonds,andDistilledwater,Dextrose,andSucroseareheldbycovalent bonds.Intheexperiment,theioniccompounds,whenplacedindistilledwaterconducted electricity.Thishappensbecausetheyhavealowelectronegativitysotheytransfertheir electrons.Whenwaterisplacedintoanioniccompoundbothcationsandionsareattracted toeachother,creatingelectricity.Thenonmetalandmetalcompoundshavehighmelting pointsbecausethebondbetweenthecationsandanionsisstrongsoittakesalotofheatin orderfortheionstocomeapart.Whenthecovalentcompoundswereplacedinwaterthey didnotconductelectricity,thisisbecausethiscompoundconsistsoftwononmetals,which havehighelectronegativity.Thismeansthattheyholdontotheirelectrons,andprotons andelectronsarentbeingattractedtoeachother.Whenweplacedthecovalent compoundsunderfiretheymelted.TheCovalentcompoundsmeltedwhenplacedunder thefirebecausethebondthatholdsthemtogetherisweak.
