and Sixteenth Annual Worldwide Candle Lighting

Sunday, December 9, 2012
By Senate resolution and a bill introduced to Congress, the second Sunday in December has been set aside as National Childrens Memorial Day and annual Worldwide Candle Lighting. The Sixteenth Annual Candle Lighting will take place this year on December 9th. At 7:00 p.m. in every zone, candles will be lighted in memory of all children who have died, creating a wave of light that will encircle the earth and create a virtual 24 hour memorial. The memorial candles are inexpensive and can be obtained locally. Please observe safety precautions for the lighting of candles in the home.

Christmas Wafers
Christmas wafers, unleavened layers with nativity pictures pressed into them, are now available at the rectory. In the packet with the wafers are informational sheets describing their history as well as possible prayers and devotional ceremonies that may be incorporated into your Christmas celebration. Traditions involving the wafers are particular to the individual families who follow them. Prayers are said and songs may be sung. It is a time of unity, love and sharing with those gathered around the table at Christmas.

The Academy's Panther Power Robotics Team Moves on to States!

On Saturday, November 17th, the Academy Robotics Team competed in the F.I.R.S.T. Lego Leagues Regional Competition at Clifton High School. The Panther Power Team went up against 33 other teams and won first place for their Project, Presentation and Innovative Solution and second place overall. This year, students researched the theme of Senior Solutions. After interviewing seniors, teams needed to recognize a problem that the elderly face on a daily basis. After adopting a Senior Partner from the Parish, the Team solved her problem! Not being able to open pill bottles due to Arthritis in the hands. Their design of a simple Pill Bottle opener and their Caps Off presentation won them the opportunity to continue on as they go up against the top 48 FLL Teams in the State competition on December 8th. Best wishes Panther Power Robotics!
