Full Day School Program and Inappropriate Education for Elementary Students INTRODUCTION The separation of school for children was established during the colonial time at the beginning of the 20th century. But today the separation itself is divided into a few level students which depend on the certain class and age. The lower level begins from kindergarten students until the senior high students. The students who firstly get education are begun from the seventh to twelfth years while studying in the elementary school besides in the kindergarten school. Elementary schools were set up to enable the working class for children to receive manual training and basic learning instruction such curriculum which emphasize on reading, writing and arithmetic. One of the elementary school programs are providing the student much time at school which is called Full Day School Program. This program has applied in some of elementary school in Indonesia which adds the teaching process almost along day. School is a place where students get knowledge and experiences. Many schools used their own different program in order to take the attention of parents to put their children studying in that school. From that purpose, school breaks the nature function of school. In the real expectation, school becomes a facilitator for student to get much knowledge but sometimes the illogic program is applied such as using much kind of books that make the student unfocused in one lesson. The system that is given from the school should be balanced by the level of students. If there is water in a bottle of tea, only 30-60 percent should be given to the students of elementary schools. The capacity and the standard of getting knowledge of elementary student is limited by the other activities beside playing with their friends. Face of traditional school of at-risk students familiar of additional concern

are the changing faces of students at-risk from contemporary environmental, educational, psychological, and personal factors (Carnegie Council, 1989). An elementary school or primary school is an institution where elementary school students receive the first stage of compulsory education (UNESCO). This school level in Indonesia is the next stage of students after getting education in kindergarten which spent much time by playing and singing together. Elementary school must be completed by teachers who had strong characteristic considered to the personal of the students. Only a few teachers who can do the appropriate work in the class which consists of many students. This student is different from other. They can cry, shout, run, and get peed in the class. So, what the teachers do is only giving the much attention for everything that these students want. The teacher may also control all of them by giving something good such as praise and gift in order to make them in the good mood. Among the forces impacting students is the environment provided by the school. The Condition of Education 2003 (Wirt, Choy, Provasnjik, Rooney, Sen, & Tobin, (2003) reported that a childs school environment affects many aspects of childrens lives, including school achievement. One of the factors increase the negative achievement for students are the environment in the school. School as the second place for children to get education must be a facilitator and provider good knowledge besides giving experiences. School is not place where students spend much time, waiting the teacher come in class and heard the twaddle of the teacher but the nature of the school should be patched to the students. Schools that are able to complete all of requirement are called as an international school standard. It doesnt matter how big the area of the school and how many programs are given, but the important one should be completed by the schools are giving a good

education which balance on the level of the learner because the levels of thinking for elementary students are different with the senior students. Students in this level cannot do every program in the schools. So, as a good school the program should be conducted to the age of the student that has connection to student thinking. The big amount of Students in elementary schools gives the high risk of the teachers whether they could teach them or not. Not only the teaching learning should be repaired but also the system of that school must be unique. The efficiency of learning process actually on both teaching learning method and school programs which are intended to the students. The new school program which is believed to increase the students ability is Full day School Program. This program give students much time and opportunity the get more education in school than spend much time at home. EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN Children are the young generations which have big influences for our nation in the future. They become the big infestation and wealthy to increase the existential this country with others. For that reason, the government should know the best education for them. The proper education is the way how to improve the childrens creativity considers to the analysis the nature habit. The government will get much succeed if all of aspect education in this country prepared well. So, it doesnt need to put another schools program from other country. Many good aspects can increase the quality of educational system in Indonesia. It needs to be combined in a good way in order to put the education become the point of successful program for children. They are; Support from the parents, Good co-ordination

with school elements, Responsibility of the government, and Strengthen of the education system. All of those aspects need to be improved by mixing with others. The good regulation and new system will be created. It can be succeed if there are significant alteration happened in our childrens educations. Children's education is very important. Education from the school will help the children not only understand the theory of the subject being taught, but also the important thing how to learn in a structured well. By a good education, the future of children would be better planned and guaranteed. However, responsibility for childrens education is not on the responsibility of the school. The key of a good education is the involvement of the parents in educating their children. If parents are directly involved in the education of children in schools, the achievement will increase. Each student achievement and successfully graduated with good results always has a parent who supported them. CHARACTERISTICS AND EDUCATION NEEDS FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN There are several characteristics of primary school who need to know by the teachers for better condition of learners especially elementary school level, Kurniawan Nursidik (Karakteristik Pendidikan Anak Usia Sekolah Dasar, 2007). As a teacher, they should be able to apply the teaching methods appropriate to the students. It is very important for an educator to know the characteristics of their students. The characteristic and needs of learners are the condition inside the class, Good grouping, and Happiness. The first characteristics of elementary school are happy to play. This characteristic requires elementary teachers to implement educational activities are charged much games or medias for lower grade. Primary teachers should design a learning model that

appropriates to all of element that would be played in it. Teachers should develop a model of teaching that serious but relaxed. The preparation should be interspersed between other subjects such as science, mathematics, and social. These lessons contain of elements games such as practical education, or the Cultural Arts and Skills. The second characteristic is happy to move, means that, the environment should be different in the class. Adults can sit for hours while elementary school children can sit about 30 minutes without any movements. Therefore, teachers should design a learning model that enables the child to move. This is not easy for teacher to control the habit of children. The children can make noise while they put themselves only sit in their desk. This challenge is kind of difficulties to educate children, but the educator should have their own way to teach them. The third characteristic of elementary school is working in groups. By working peer groups, children learn important aspects in the process of socialization, such as: learning of the rules of the group, learning solidarity. Learning does not depend on the environment of school, learning need much responsibility of the school. This characteristic implies that teachers should design a learning model that proper to work or study in groups. Teachers can ask students to form small groups with members of 3-4 people to learn or accomplish a task in groups. The fourth characteristic of elementary school children is happy to feel or demonstrate something directly. Considering to the cognitive development theory, elementary school children entered the concrete operational stage. From what we learned in school, they learned the new concepts from the old concepts. For elementary school children, the teacher's explanation of the subject matter would be better understood if the

kids put themselves as well as give explanation for adults. Thus, teachers should design a learning model that enables children directly involved in the learning process. For example, children will be more understanding about the direction of the wind, by way of bringing kids outside of the classroom, and then pointed directly every direction of the wind. In addition, the most paid attention to the characteristics of elementary school children, the implications of education can also start from the needs of the learners. Meaning SD needs can be identified from development tasks. Development tasks are tasks that occur on a certain period of individuals, if success it will lead to a sense of happiness and bring toward success in implementing the next tasks, while get failure in carrying out the task which creates a feeling of unhappy. Development of tasks is derived from the physical maturity of the students which in this study focus on the elementary school student. Learning process accept some tasks from cultural developments such as learning to read, write and count, learn responsibility as citizens. While the developmental tasks derived from the value each individual personality including selecting and preparing for work and they will get the value of philosophy in life. Elementary school students has three major thrust outwards, namely (1) the child confidence to go outside class and get in the peer group, (2) the trust of children enter the world of games and activities in the need to physical skills, and (3) the mental confidence to enter the logic, and symbolic communication. Thus, understanding the characteristics of learners and developmental tasks of elementary school children can be used as a starting point to determine the purpose of education in elementary school, and to determine the appropriate time to provide education with the developmental needs of the children.

Primary School Elementary School is the first stage of compulsory education. It is preceded by pre-school or nursery education and is followed by secondary education (Wikipedia). Elementary school is the most basic level of formal education in Indonesia. Primary schools are within 6 years, from grade 1 to grade 6. Current Grade 6 students are required to attend the National Examination that affects students' graduation. Primary school graduates can continue their education to junior high school. Elementary school students are generally aged 7-12 years. In Indonesia, every child which is 7-15 years old must be got the basic education, namely primary school for 6 years. Primary school is held by the government or private. Since the implementation of regional autonomy in 2001 make the management of primary schools in Indonesia is handled under the Ministry of Education. Structurally, a public elementary school is a technical unit of education districts in each city. Education was organized for children who are seven years old by the assumption that they have already prepared themselves to receive the education well which are able to learn about the basic knowledge. Primary education is aimed to provide a foundation of knowledge, attitudes and skills for students. Primary education was developed to improve the quality of the students who are still very young. We should understand the dosage of primary school, So that they can attend any events that are held by school.

The parents should also be understood their position in order to accompany the educational development of their children. Although, they put forward to train children to socialize with friends and the community, besides education and learning that leads to understanding of knowledge. It is part of the understanding of the notion of primary schools that is needed to know. Primary school children can increase their knowledge considering to the shift of the curriculum which is given. Such the globalization has spread to all corners of the world; the primary school children should have known international language support before the new English language is taught in junior high school children. So the primary school means the basic preparation of a child to know his world. So when the world is growing, the children were required to prepare basic needs of their education. FULL DAY SCHOOL PROGRAM INDECENT Full day school program has been applied in some school from the beginning level Elementary School till the highest level of school High School. This program requires a big intelligence for each student who enters this school. This program imports the international curriculum becomes the subject of learning matter. Based on nature of elementary school students also need the other aspect should be learnt beside study at school. in the other side there is contradiction between that theory and Full day school Program. We all know that in the full day school program the students of elementary school will stay at school at least 10 hours a day. Sugiyanto(2007) state in his article Karakteristik Anak Siswa SD The student of elementary school cannot sit in their chair calmly more than 30 minutes. From those theory that are stated by two person there is a different concept which is applied in the Full day School Program for student of elementary school, it also

means that there is a gap between the person theory and the concept of full day school Program. From that gap I as a researcher will make identification and take the title The Bad Characteristic of Full Day School Program Gives Inappropriate Education for Elementary Students The equipment of full day school program which has physically different with other school comes from the additional time. Full day school program provides much education material which increases the intelligence of student. It actually wishes for many parents, but there are problems inside the elementary students. Much of parents didnt know the nature of elementary students is physically children. They are need much socializes with others and their environment. They like to play with friends, doing interaction with the surrounding and the most important one is getting affection from the family especially the parents. Full day school prevent all of aspects thats absolutely needed by the elementary student which spend much time in the school. Full day school only focuses on the increasing cognitive skill for students. There is no other way besides give additional time for additional material including internal learning process and external learning process. For this reason, there are something wrong happened inside the children which called psychological pressure. It has correlation with the duration of children inside the class during learning process. As the impact of it, children will get much bored in the class and the concentration will leak soon before understanding the material. We all know that elementary students are students who still young and many of them are children who immature of their life. They also need to play with friends. If the time of them is limited by studying in the school, they will get lose the time of socializing with

friends. The important of doing socialization for children are better than studying something that stimulates their stress level. Socialization and interaction help students increasing the mental of the existential themselves in a community of friends. The different curriculum provides the different material of learning in general education. The material that is imported from other country make students study hardly for understanding the material which using English. This looks like very good material learning but there is question inside the students that feel uncomforted. Students are forced to get these lesson materials which stimulate the student get stress on their study. This is not a good idea where there is a good material that actually very good but doesnt give good impact to the cognitive skill of students. This must be prohibited before something bad happened to the children. Full day school requires students returning home at evening. Long day at school make the elementary students get tired after their busy activities. They also spend much energy after exploring their thinking about the hard lesson which is studied.
