Happy New Year! I pray you all have had a wonderful Advent season, Christmas holiday, and a joyous New Year. This time of year can be full of excitement, anticipation, and created memories. It can also be a time of connectedness and growth in our spiritual lives. Whatever the experience was for you this year, I pray you felt the hope, peace, love, and joy of our Triune God in the midst of it. Now, we are all faced with a new year and a new year can mean many different things for people. Some of the people of our church family had a very tumultuous 2012 because of the loss of loved ones or because of a major transition in their lives. Others of us were so busy in 2012, we are wondering where the year went. And I think all of us are still reeling from the violent end to this year in Connecticut and other parts of the world. But, there is one thing we can all have for 2013; and that is hope. The God that created us is still God. The God that created this earth is still working in us. The God that loves us and calls to us, is still here; longing for relationship with all who will seek him out. I am so grateful we have a God that is bigger than all obstacles, stronger than all doubt, and greater than all evil. I feel blessed to know that no matter what happens to me, or to anyone, if we allow God to work in that situation, if we listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, if we remember to be still and know that God is there, there will be redemption. Therefore, I invite you to focus on that. When you are feeling lost or hopeless, remember the redemption of God. When you question the ways of others or of this world, remember the redemption of God. When the fog of this life is thick, remember the redemption of God. In the midst of our obstacles this year, we have made new friends that have become part of our family. We just experienced a wonderfully moving and well done ecumenical cantata with the Belleview Seventh-Day Adventist Choir. We found ways to be a part of the Santa for Seniors Drive. We have picked more fruit and donated more clothes to Alice Faison for the Sisterhood Outreach Ministry. That is redemption. That is God working his glory through any and all circumstances. That is God overcoming all things and bringing about his hope in mighty and magnificent ways. I pray you find peace and encouragement through that. We have been part of some wonderful things in 2012 and I know great things are ahead for our 2013. May the God of redemption bless you this year and may you feel his love, protection, and grace everyday in 2013. Blessings,

Our Sunday School Bible lessons are continuing on Treasures of the Nile, plus arts/crafts and Bible verses. Upcoming new crafts are: children will be making their own chair covers by decorating them from canvas bags, Were Just Kids which will include recipes, hints and ideas; Buggy for Books Library Club and a childrens/youth workshop which will include a drama workshop. We do different types of projects almost every Sunday. This Is Just the Beginning If you would like to help with the drama workshop, please see me or call me at 854-2629 during the evening. I would like to begin this workshop next year, watch for additional details in future newsletters. Ill need your help, the children and I are looking forward to this. Heading toward the future and the future is NOW! I hope to hear from you about helping with these projects. Joy Anderson

FROM THE HEART - UNITED METHODIST WOMEN Our Advent breakfast was held on Sat. Dec. 1 and we had 51 who attended. A special thanks to the ladies for the beautiful decorations, delicious breakfast and a great program on, The Symbolism of the Chrismon Tree. We would like to thank the United Methodist Men for coming to the breakfast. Thank you to Pastor Daryl for giving the blessing and the closing prayer. Again, thank you ladies for a lovely Saturday morning which was enjoyed by all who attended. We hope everyone had a beautiful Christmas and a Happy New Year. Our next meeting is Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 10 am in Fellowship Hall. Our meetings are open to all ladies of the Church. Joy Anderson President UMW SPAGHETTI DINNER FUNDRAISER Once again, the Masons from the Morning Star Lodge along with their spouses and other faithful worshipers have said they would serve another spaghetti supper fundraiser for our Church. Last time, they raised over $1,000 to help with the refinishing of the floor in Fellowship Hall. This year, the money raised will go into the newly established fund to purchase a new organ for the sanctuary. It will be all you can eat spaghetti with meatballs, salad, rolls, dessert and beverage. The date is Friday, January 18, 2013 from 4:30 to 7 pm. The cost is $7 for adults, $4 for children (ages 6-12) and free for children under 6. Tickets will be available the first week of January for sale to your family and friends. Bob Greene MODELs MODELs (Mostly Older Debutantes Eating Lunch) will meet The Attics Caf, 801 N. THE SCOUTING SIDE Pack 112 Pack 112 has completed its re-charter and welcomes Matt Altmannsberger as its new Cubmaster! We had a fun December; marching in the Light Up Ocala parade and at our final Pack Meeting for 2012. The Bear Den worked on the whittling chip-it was fun watching the boys hard at work whittling their bars of Ivory soap with the help of their parents. All the dens have been working on fun projects, jokes, skits and songs. Pack 112 wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and prays for peace in 2013. Kelsey Burnette Brownie Troop 425 Troop 425 is celebrating the holidays by earning their Share the Season patch. In part one, the girls learned about celebrating Valentines Day in Italy and presented a display at the Holidays Around the World event. In part two, most girls marched in the Light Up Ocala parade where their banner won first place. Our theme was giving toys and pets new homes for the holidays through donations. Other girls celebrated the holiday in their community through their schools or churches. In part three, the girls donated gifts for mothers at our local womens shelter. We are taking a break to spend the holidays with our families but will be back in the new year to begin this years cookie sales. Merry Christmas to all from Troop 425! Jen Althiser IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT from Temple Bnai Darom Synagogue A one-of-a kind exhibit, Postal & Monetary Evidence of the Holocaust-A Breakdown in Humanity, which has never before been to Florida, will be coming to Lake, Marion & Sumter Counties Feb. 8 through Feb. 13, 2013. This exhibit includes over 350 pieces of World War II era mail, money, and documents related to the Nazis attempt to exterminate Jews and other individuals. In addition to the exhibit, the curator, Danny Spungen, will present a Power Point description of the items and their history. There will also be Holocaust survivors at each venue who will tell their stories and answer questions. There is no charge to see the exhibit. The exhibit can be viewed: Feb. 8 at Trinity Catholic High School, Ocala from 6 - 9 pm. Feb. 10 at Temple Bnai Darom, Ocala from noon to 4:30 pm, Feb. 11 at Leesburg High School from 6 - 9 pm, Feb. 12 at On Top of the World Cultural Center, Ocala from 11 am - 4 pm and Feb. 13 at Savannah Center, The Villages from 11 am to 8 pm. Its that time of year again as people look forward to celebrating the holidays with their family. For many of our children here at the Florida United Methodist Childrens Home, we are their family. Many of the young people who come into our care have been told in numerous ways that there is no room for them. For them, the holidays can be an especially difficult time. They can serve as a painful reminder of all they dont have or have lost. Some children have never had a Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner, decorated a Christmas tree, exchanged Christmas presents, or recognized Christmas in their home. For many of our children, Christmas at the Childrens Home is the first normal holiday they will ever have. When you are raised in a troubled or abusive environment most special events are filled with meltdowns, rage, drama and conflict. Our job is to replace those painful memories with memories of stability, warmth and the love of Jesus Christ. In early October, we do a through inventory to make sure we have holiday decorations for each and every home. We want each child to experience the joy of decorating a Christmas tree with their friends and family here. On Thanksgiving Day, residents sit down and enjoy a traditional meal with their FUMCH family at the kitchen table in their cottage. At the beginning of December, we hold our annual Santas workshop in the campus Gym. Church groups and organizations arrive early in the morning to set up craft booths. Then the children arrive as cookies are made, wreaths are decorated, pictures with Santa are taken and gifts are wrapped by the children. By mid December, Houseparents are allowed into our secret gift room, filled generously by donors. With help from volunteer Santas Elves, they pick out gifts for the children from their wish lists. Houseparents, therapists and volunteers wrap all the gifts and they are safely stored away until Christmas morning. On Christmas Eve, a special candlelight worship service is held in the Chapel. It is an intimate service, with choirs arranged in a circle and acoustic music to accompany the traditional hymns. As they hear the glorious news of the birth of Christ, residents are given the opportunity to respond by making a commitment or re-commitment to follow Christ. The following morning, on Christmas day, presents are opened in each home. Some children will receive their very first Christmas gifts ever. Then each home shares a special Christmas meal together, giving thanks for the blessing of being together with each other on that blessed day. And since many of our young people come from different places geographically, culturally and in terms of their faith experiences, we also celebrate Kwanzaa in January. It is a celebration that is consistent with Christian values; one that exposes young people to the reality that different cultures express their values in different ways. We want to make the holiday season something our residents will remember for the rest of their lives. As you can see, it takes months of planning and many, many hours of hard work by staff members. We also could not do it, without the extreme generosity of our donors and wonderful volunteers. Thank you to all of you that help make the holidays special for our children.
