He wants Mary to faint. She cant, because she is too nervous and can't do it on the spot without the other girls there
10. Proctor calls Abigail a whore, and he confesses his lechery. Danforth tests Proctor's statement by calling for Elizabeth and asking her why Abigail was dismissed. What does Elizabeth say? Why?

She says that she thought John was fond of her, but she says that John didn't "cheat" on her, even though he did.
11. What do the girls do to Mary? What is her response?

They're pretending like Mary is putting her spirit in them. At first Mary maintains her assertion that the girls are only pretending, and finally she joins the girls.
12. What happens to Proctor?

Proctor says God is dead, he is arrested.


13. What does Hale do?

Analysis. Answer the following in a well-developed paragraph. Use


evidence from the text to support your answer.
1. On page 186 Judge Danforth says, . . . a person is either with this court or he must be counted against it, there be no road between." Explain the importance of the his statement with analysis.

Your either with God or the Devil, the court is perfect, do not oppose it
2. Is Reverend Hale a dynamic or static character? Provide evidence to support your position. How does this help the audience understand this particular character's motivation as well as an intended theme of the author. Rev. Hale is a dynamic character. Actually, he did change from act 1 to act 3. At the beginning, Hale came to the town to accuse people of witchcraft, but towards the end he realized that the people accused were innocent and he stood up to the court. However, theres one thing that he never changed: Rev. Hale is the one who always follows the truth and justice.

Evaluation. Answer the following in one to two paragraphs. Use


evidence from the text and/or other relevant sources. 1. As the play progresses, it is evident the flaws of the characters have made their way into the workings of the court. As a result, vengeance becomes mistaken for justice. Explain how you would differentiate between the concepts of vengeance and justice. Where do you see these concepts coming into conflict in our society?
