Many of you know our speaker, Peter Hannaford, as chairman of the Humboldt County Republican Central Committee for the last two years, but his career of more than forty years includes many more things. He was closely associated with President Ronald Reagan for nearly a dozen years, beginning in the Governors O ce in Sacramento. For several of those years, he was Mr. Reagans chief writer. Six years ago, after 22 years in Washington, D.C., Peter and his wife Irene decided to return to California and settled in Eureka because of long ties to Humboldt County. Here he has served on the County Grand Jury, the City of Eurekas Finance Advisory Committee and as editorial pages editor of the late Eureka Reporter newspaper. His columns on current events are published frequently in The American Spectators daily online edition. Over the years, he has had eleven books published, the latest of which is Presidential Retreats, and he is going to tell us about them, over lunch at Baywood.... Presidents Message
The Right Stu
Dear Friends of Republican Women, Federated, It is my hope that all of you had a blessed and happy Christmas and New Year and, with smiles on your faces, are picking up the remnants of 2012 and readying yourselves for our new beginning. As with any of the disappointments in our lives, life goes on; and how we handle those times of frustration and disillusionment determines if we are made of the right stu . Last November, Debbie, Rose and I attended a California Federated Republican Women conference in Rancho Cordova, near Sacramento. Having been installed as your newly elected president the day before, my head was spinning with ideas to share with you as we walk together into our new year as Republican women. I was equally thrilled to learn that the state sta had been discussing the same ideas as well. The entire conversation obviously centered on rebuilding at each level of our organization for the central purpose of breaking down the false concepts and judgments that had been placed on Republicans and Republican women in particular. Do you realize that it was the Republican Party that set the slaves free? Or that Republicans were responsible for starting the Su ragette movement? Dont forget that it was Teddy Roosevelt who started the United States Forestry Service where 194 million acres were placed in reserve. In addition, he was also responsible for anti-trust regulation which opposed the practices of big business as it related to the people of America he had sworn to protect. He had the right stu , and so do we. Its time to rebuild. What will we propose to achieve this year and the year to come in our community? What will it look like? Lets talk. With all of us working together toward common goals, the work will always be lighter. Looking forward to seeing you at the Baywood Golf and Country Club on Jan 17th at 11:30 A.M. The luncheon cost is $16.50 for Caesar Salad or Tri-colored Cheese Pasta with Chicken. Beverages only: $3.00. This is our White Elephant fundraiser, so clean out those drawers and closets for those treasures which need sharing. As I think of the potential of this group of amazing women, Im excited about our future as a group and the impact we can make in our community. You are the Right Stu . Warmest regards,

AMERICANISM REPORT
Because our military families living overseas live at, or just above, the poverty level, HRWF decided to help support our troops by clipping 'manufacturer's coupons' for food and household items from newspapers and magazines and mailing them to an overseas military base. These coupons are honored at PXs on American bases around the world and help defray the cost of family living. (They are even honored several months after the expiration date.) This is a very worthwhile program we are proud to support. In November of 2009, the face value of our rst mailing was $5,988; our three mailings in 2010 totaled $45,011; 2011 mailings totaled $54,184; our rst 2012 mailing was $30, 504, for a grand total, to date, of $135,690.

PUTTIN UP THE FLAG

So, my daughters home from college this weekend and she says to me, Dad, why are you puttin up the ag? I didnt know what to tell her, so I said, I dont know it looks like a nice day and it seems like a good thing to do. She went back in the house. Im not that great with words, but I thought about ither questionwhile I was out mowing the grass. This is what I wished I would have told her. Im puttin up the ag because its Saturday and later on, maybe Ill invite the neighbors, Charlie and Dee, over and well grill somethingand Charlie and I will get in a good-natured argument about politics or whatever, cause we never agree about anything, Charlie and I. Im puttin up the ag cause Charlie and I can do that here we can disagree about politics or religion or whatever without either of us worrying that someone will come haul us away or maybe well go cheaper---hot dogs, cause around here almost everyone can a ord a hot dog cause were blessed in this country yes, blessed. Thats why Im puttin up the ag. And then, tomorrow, well go to church and well worship. Im puttin up the ag cause around here, we can think about God, talk about God, and worship God and no one can tell you you cant. And Im puttin up the ag because the neighbors kids in the Marines and I want his parents to know Im proud of him. And, wellIm puttin up the ag cause its a nice place. Its not a perfect placenot even close but its my place and Im glad it is. So--- Im puttin up the ag because its Saturday and because I can.

Happy New Year!

Welcome back to dysfunctional California politics! The Legislature o cially reconvenes on Monday, yet Governor Brown and his cronies have already managed to mismanage our government. An investigation into the State Parks and Recreation department secret funds debacle have found that Parks o cials were deliberately and intentionally hiding their surplus money over many years. The State Parks and Recreation department were able to conceal $54 million in two secret funds for over 12 years. In yet another asco, the scal cli agreement in Congress left California $45 million short of their June budget projection. As a part of the scal cli negotiations, Congress abolished the state inheritance tax credit. With the 2010 Bush tax cuts set to expire, Governor Brown and the legislature were counting on a new income of federal tax transfers. But since Congress permanently blocked the inheritance credits for states, Governor Brown will not be receiving the $45 million he was counting on to help balance the budget. This is just the beginning of short-sidedness for this Democrat super majority. Stay tuned! ___________ Presidents Message: Welcome to "2013 Year of the CFRW Woman". We need to take ownership this year of our party. We need you at our 2013 Winter Conference to share your ideas at our interactive workshops. This is your organization and without your input we will not grow and be e ective. We need to learn how to reach women of all ages, ethnicities and heritages. We need to learn how best to get our message out to the public. We need to learn when elections are held regarding voter integrity. On Friday of our conference we will hold a "Leadership Workshop" to prepare you to looking forward to being leaders within your own clubs and the Federation. We have been told over and over again, that we are the life blood of the party. Well, truth be told, we are the heart and soul. This is our year, but only if you are willing to step forward to being motivated and educated. Help us to meet your needs. Let us know what you are looking for and expecting from CFRW. As the old WWII logo, "Uncle Sam Needs You," brought many into the armed services, our motto is, "CFRW NEEDS YOU NOW!" YOU ARE THE BEST OF THE BEST AND 2013 IS YOUR YEAR. ONE TEAM, ONE PURPOSE, ONE GOAL. HAPPY NEW YEAR, WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU IN SAN DIEGO. Carol Hadley. CFRW President CFRW Conference in San Diego! Our CFRW Winter Conference in is sunny San
