Just three months after packing everything up for the 2011 season in Brazil, the show is back on the road as the 2012 Formula 1 World Championship gets underway in Australia. A renewed HRT Formula 1 Team takes to the track in Melbourne with the F112 having seen the light only a few days ago but with some mileage under its belt. A step forward from last year but having missed out on preseason testing, the Spanish outfit faces a tough challenge at Albert Park next weekend. But the team has proved that with hard work and effort anything is possible. Pirelli have elected their medium and soft tyres for the opening round of the season. Im feeling positive ahead of the Australian Grand Prix after having completed 10 laps with the new F112 last Monday. Of course this was only a first contact and we didnt push it to the limit but the important thing was to get the ball rolling. Its not ideal to miss testing but we must look forward now. Last year we only managed to complete five laps in the third practice session and failed to qualify for the race, so Im looking to etch out that memory
Narain Karthikeyan

After a long winter of hard work, weve finally made it to Australia and are really looking forward to trying the car out and continue learning. We need to try and make the most of our time on Friday and Saturday morning to make it to qualifying and the race in the best possible conditions. The most important aspect of the car is braking, traction and its top speed, which is why the DRS will play an important role
Pedro de la Rosa

It doesnt seem true but the first race of the season is already upon us. Weve spent three months working relentlessly, but the team and the car are ready for the great task ahead of us. We have done a lot of things since the last race of 2011 in Brazil and Im very proud of the entire team but, without a doubt, the hardest part comes now. We know where we are but also where we wish to be and with the team spirit and sacrifice that we have shown, Im convinced that we can achieve it.
Luis Prez-Sala, Team Principal

>My day with HRT

From the day I was informed that I was the winner of the contest, a dose of nerves and emotions got the best of me. The day arrived and my friend and I turned up at the circuit ready to enjoy a fantastic experience alongside HRT F1 Team.

With the accreditations in our hands, few places and things would be left without doing. The teams garage and hospitality were the main places we visited. As a Formula 1 fan I never thought I would see these places, so having this opportunity was unbelievable and interesting at the same time. We also enjoyed the last day of testing from a privileged view in the circuits terraces and stands. Lastly, a stroll down the pit lane and the paddock allowed to fully submerge ourselves in the world of Formula 1. Despite the fact that we were informed in the morning that the team car would not make it out in the end, we equally enjoyed accompanying the team and the whole experience. I would like to highlight the teams spirit and family environment to, despite facing adversity, bring the project forward. Proof of this is the vibe in the teams new hospitality, where friendly conversations spontaneously emerged, even with the drivers.

Thanks to that and in the unforgettable experience, I didnt want to finish this small valuation without thanking the whole team for the special attention and good treatment we received during the whole day. Thanks HRT F1 Team!

>Last time out

After not rolling with the F111 in any of the official practice of the preseason, the Spanish team faced a hard start for the World Championship in Albert Park as the single-seater got just in time for the first appointment of the calendar. Team worked day and night in Melbourne and was rewarded when the car hit the track for the second practice on Friday, even though it only completed one lap. Both drivers could complete 11 laps in Saturdays qualifying session but blamed their lack of shooting and Narain Karthikeyan y Vitantonio Liuzzi were unable to perform a time below 107%, so neither of them was on the grid for the Australia 2011 Grand Prix.

ALBERT PARK. MELBOURNE

>Circuit
The Australian Grand Prix exists since 1950 but didnt form a part of the Formula 1 World Championship calendar until 1985 when it took place at the Adelaide Street Circuit. In 1996 the race moved to Melbourne, specifically to Albert Park, a street circuit which is used once a year for this event. It is a quick track with few straights meaning that overtaking is not a simple task. Since it is a street circuit, there isnt much grip at the start of the weekend but this improves as the days pass by. The Australian Grand Prix tends to be an exciting race as it gets the Championship underway and many surprise results can occur.
