Brother Chris Barbee grew up on

a farm outside of Clinton, Missouri,

where he attended high school. He
joined Lambda Chi because he had a
friend in the dorms who was in the house
who brought him around a few times.
After meeting many of the brothers and
attending a few events, I was attracted
to fraternity life and Lambda Chi in
particular, he said.
Chris says that, Gregg Hammann
introduced me to Lambda Chi, and Dave
Stoup (then president I think) drove 4
hours roundtrip with me to convince
my parents that my grades wouldnt
nosedive if I pledged. His big brother
was Tom Elfrink.
He says that his most memorable
experience as a new member was the
initiation process, but that he was
also impressed by the diversity of the
members of his class, in terms of
differences in backgrounds, and how in
the end analysis none of that mattered.
Chris favorite Mizzou memory
is a football one. In my junior year,
Mizzou played Alabama, at Alabama,
while Bama was ranked No. 2 (Mizzou
unranked). Mizzou won 20-7, and
rose to No. 5 in the polls. Hundreds
(thousands??) of students drove to
Columbia airport at 1 a.m. to welcome
the team back.
Chris served as the chapters treasurer
and in the Initiation Ritual. On campus,
he was a member and officer in the
business schools student council.
He graduated from Mizzou in 1976
with a degree in business administration
majoring in accounting. Now he lives in
Philadelphia, where he has been since
1995. He lives in the suburbs, works in
the city, and travels quite a bit, saying
that he is out as much as in. His
wife, Colleen, is from Philadelphia, and
they have lived in many places in the
United States and internationally. They
have three children: Catherine, who
is 23 and graduated last year in digital/
graphic design; Christopher who just
started this fall at Bama (booooo . . .)
as a business major; and Connor who is
a high school senior and in the middle of
his college search process.

Brother Willie Whealan is from
Fenton, Mo., and is a proud
member of the St. Louis University
High School (SLUH) Class of 2011.
Hes a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Willie says a lot of things drew
him to Lambda Chi. I wanted to
do something that not many of
my friends did when they came
to college, and wanted to get
something more out of my college
experience than what my frst
semester as a freshman had to
offer. I also wanted to feel a part
of something bigger than myself,
something I felt in high school but
was at that point missing in my
college experience.
He says that when he frst joined
the chapter, he had no idea what Id
gotten myself into, but by the time
our semester as Associate Members
ended, I had found 11 great guys I
was able to call my brothers.
One of his top Mizzou memories
so far is taking second place in
Greek Week last year, after putting
in a lot of hard work.
He currently serves as the
chapters High Sigma (scholarship
chairman), and plans to graduate
in 2015. He is a business major,
and plays for Mizzou Mens Club
Volleyball team. After college, he
wants to attend graduate school,
and, see what the world has to offer,
possibly in the form of teaching at
a Jesuit high school as an Alumni
Service Corps (ASC) volunteer.
