VILLAGE SOUTH

Ruths Ramblings
Its hard to believe another year is coming to a close. What a great year 2012 has been! We have opened the HeathCrest Fitness Centers at each Crestwood and watched the participation grow daily. We have danced, walked, baked, and partied in support of Wounded Warrior Project. We have proudly collected over $38,000 just this year to support our wounded heroes! We have had great fun with the Red Hats, Mens Clubs, Dinner Dances, monthly community events, and all the fun and educational events offered in each and every Crestwood building. What a great place to live! In 2012 we also traveled via motor coach to Gatlinburg and are in the planning stages for some great trips in 2013. We will post the information as soon as it is available. We would love to have you join us on our next adventure. So keep checking the information boards in your lobby and have a wonderful and happy new year!

New Years Eve Celebration

Holiday Dinner
Leasing Corner The happy elves in the leasing office would
like to extend a great big THANK YOU to all of our residents! You are the reason we are here, and we appreciate all you do to make Crestwood a great place to be. In keeping with the Holiday mood, here are twelve ways to share the Crestwood living spirit! Bring a friend along to Red Hats this month. We always have a fun and entertaining program guaranteed to fit every season. Invite your friends to join you for a building dinner. Its a great chance to meet your neighbors, and just maybe your friend would like to BE your neighbor. Share the music with a friend! Concerts are a perfect way to enjoy Crestwood living together. Invite a friend to the Mens Club breakfast. Its great to break bread together with old friends and new ones. Bring someone new along on a Crestwood outing and share the active Crestwood lifestyle with them. Tell others about your community fundraising involvement. We are so very impressed with the many ways our Crestwood residents are active in good works for good causes. The dinner dance at Crestwood Village West is the perfect way to entertain friends and family while sharing the fun. Let us entertain your church or social group. We would love to help host your small group. Invite the card players in your life to share their favorite game with you at your building. Grab a friend and swing by the Club at Crestwood (Building 1) and check it out, you might find its the perfect place for both of you! Better hurry the Club is almost full! Does your crafting or hobby circle need room to stretch out? Our lobbies are perfect for a crowd of crafters. After sharing the fun of Crestwood living, be sure to bring your friend to see us in the leasing office for a tour. If you refer them and they move in theres a $100 bonus for you!

up with a well rounded and consistent diet and exercise program during this hectic season. HealtHCrest challenges you to stick to it by drinking 6 glasses of water per day. Our bodies are over 70% water! Fueling up with six 8 ounce glasses a day will keep you feeling hydrated and will help when trying to stay away from tempting holiday treats! Be sure to visit the Fitness center this Crestwood Village South

month for a personalized exercise program and group exercise classes. Making time for exercise can help reduce stress by increasing endorphins. Our HealtHCrest event Monday December 3rd will focus on ways to reduce stress throughout the holiday season and every day! Meet Thomas Coffman Mr. Thomas Coffman has been a resident of building 2 since April of 2011. Mr. Coffman is a man of many talents; it seems his creativity keeps him going! His story clearly reflects this. Thomas Coffman was born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He studied drawing and painting for several years at Kalamazoo Art Institute and went on to graduate from Kendal school of design in Grand Rapids Michigan, in 1970. To add to his talent, he also studied voice in Grand Rapids Michigan in 1970 and sang in several choirs. In fact, he was a member of the Western Michigan Opera and performed in their first production in 1970. In 1972, he moved to Chicago and worked several years as a set designer and photo stylist. Did you ever purchase anything from the Spiegel catalogue in the 1970s? If so, you may have Mr. Coffman to thank for it! He worked 5 years as a Spiegel set designer. He continued to study voice at the Chicago Conservatory and sang in several choirs. In 1979, he sang in the Papal Choir for Pope John Paul IIs mass in Grant Park. In 1983, Mr. Coffman moved to Indianapolis where he continued to use his designing skills for LS Ayres, styling and designing sets. He went on to design sets for 15 years for Delta faucets, kitchens and bathrooms. During this time he continued to share his creativity at Christ Church Cathedral, where he served as a lector and Sunday school teacher. He went to Ireland in 2001 and visited his great grandmother Fitzgeralds 300 year old estate in Kilkeny. A very proud moment for him and surely he brought home a lot of stories to tell. Still today he uses his talents and is a blessing to All Saints Church by serving on the Flower Guild and Special Events committee. Mr. Coffman enjoys the clean and quiet atmosphere he shares with his friends and neighbors here at Crestwood. As you can imagine, Mr. Coffman had no trouble making friends since he moved here in the spring of 2011. He is surrounded by new friends and, as you can imagine, location is very important to a busy gentleman such as himself! The location is very convenient as we are not too far from down town. Thank you Mr. Thomas Coffman for being part of our community, we are glad you are happy here!

Please join us in Building 6 Wednesday,

Coles Chronicles
Its beginning to look a
lot like Christmas! Once again, Crestwood Village will celebrate the holidays with our annual traditions . . . festive dcor, resident parties, holiday cards, caroling, charitable giving, and special dinner bus events where residents go to see the holiday lights. I hope you will all join in the fun and invite your family and friends to our Holiday Rockin Christmas event on Wednesday, December 12th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Well have appetizers, desserts, entertainment, and maybe even a visit from Santa Claus! We all know baking, shopping, wrapping, traveling, and socializing can be overwhelming, so please dont forget to give yourself a break. Remember, we celebrate the holidays for an entire month and they dont have to be perfect to be wonderful! I know most of you spent decades working and sacrificing in order to give your children and loved ones special holidays. Now, its your turn! Spend your time doing the things that are most important to you, and forget about the rest. As each season passes I am more convinced it is the time you spend with someone, how you make them feel, and the memories you share, that are much more important than the material gifts you give them. I encourage you to consider sharing your heart, memories, stories, traditions and time with those whom you love this Christmas. I would love to hear some of your family or cultural traditions so I might be able to introduce them to my own family. Another meaningful and

inexpensive gift we could all afford to give is a heartfelt letter sharing your favorite memories. Not an email, but an actual honest to goodness hand written letter or card. Why not send fewer holiday cards, but make the ones you do send really matter? Leading authorities have observed that memory and life review are important parts of the aging process, says Barry Lebowitz, Ph.D, deputy director of UCSDs Stein Institute for Research on Aging. These shared memories are important for the young as well children enjoy hearing about how it was when your parents were your age . . . The holidays always evoke pleasant memories, and what better time to share them? When all else fails, one of my favorite stress-relievers is humor. At Crestwood Village South, we are a work family that loves to laugh! Some of the very best family traditions often revolve around humor and there is no shortage of that here. And last but not least, our faith traditions bring meaning to the season. I hope you find peace and joy through the services and customs. Meeting our own spiritual needs is truly the best gift that we give ourselves. As we celebrate this busy holiday season and begin planning for 2013, Id like to thank each and every resident for making this a wonderful year at Crestwood Village South, and for all the fun and laughter weve shared this year. I leave you with a fitting quotation from John Greenleaf Whittier . . . A little smile, a word of cheer, A bit of love from someone near, A little gift from one held dear, Best wishes for the coming year These make a Merry Christmas!

Red Hat Society Attend the Red Hat Holiday Tea to be held Friday, December 21st at 2:00 in Building 5. Mens Club All men are invited to attend Mens Club on Thursday, December 6th at 9:00 in the Building 3 for a delicious breakfast and fun & silly holiday gift ideas.
