2. This abstract is being submitted for: a) Oral Presentation – 90 minutes (Environmental Track)

3. Presentation Title:

“Hazards of Electromagnetic Pollution from Cell Phones, Wi-Fi, Compact Fluorescent Bulbs, High
Frequency Transients on Electrical Wiring, New Utility Technologies and The Coming “Wi-Max”—
And What Can We Do About It”

4. Short Description of Presentation:

Presentation on what is happening to patients from increasing exposures to electromagnetic fields. We

will review the growth in electromagnetic pollution over the last 100 years, the science showing the
known biological effects and mechanisms of action, why local governments are unable to limit wireless
technologies on health or environmental grounds and how to remediate.

5. Abstract:

a) Learning Objectives:

Health practitioners will learn how electromagnetic fields are often a hidden root source of illness, and
how the unchecked growth of technologies employing microwave radiation has reached a critical point
where the fields are significantly impacting humans, animals and nature. They will learn the importance
of exploring this possibility in cases of headaches, fatigue, insomnia, rashes, tinnitus, ADD, impaired
memory, and irritability, as well as what the science shows is the connection with chronic conditions such
as asthma, arrhythmia, brain tumors, brittle diabetes, autoimmune conditions, hormone imbalances,
autism and a wide range of other neurological conditions. They will also learn about special concerns for
children, pregnant women and fetuses.

Research from the BioInitiative Report, a synthesis of the science showing biological effects prepared by
14 leading international scientists in Aug ‘07, will be discussed, as well as a new report to be published
this summer by the International Commission on Electromagnetic Safety (ICEMS), a consortium of
international scientists and physicians. This report will review known basic mechanisms of effect
established below heating level and EMF exposure standards internationally.

Attendees will come to understand why the US government required no pre-market health testing of these
technologies, believing the industry’s long since disproven position that if the technologies did not have
‘thermal’ effect they were safe. They will also understand that the Telecommunications Act of 1996
stripped state and local governments of rights to ensure a safe habitat for residents, and why it is
important health practitioners take a stand on this issue as Sec. 704 must be repealed.

Attendees will learn what’s involved in assessing a patient’s home and office for electromagnetic fields,
and what kind of remediation steps may be taken in high EMF environments. There are ways to
effectively insulate homes and these measures can often make a significant difference in patient
symptoms and well being, as well as play a key role in prevention.

Attendees will learn the state of activism abroad on EMFs, and the steps other countries are taking to
protect residents and especially children’s health.

AANP members will learn about an important public health subject little covered in the U.S. media.
Attendees will learn the United States is behind the curve in establishing or recommending EMF
protections for citizens, that 3-8% of the population is estimated to be seriously impacted now and that
the health effects from EMFs will soon increase with the U.S. government sanctioned spread of the ‘Wi-
Max’ network, high powered 24/7 Wi-Fi which will roll out across America over the next 3 years.

EMF Education is critical for health practitioners at this time so that they can effectively help their
patients.

b) Presentation Outline

Magda Havas, PhD: Changes in our electromagnetic environment; sources of exposure; scientific
studies dealing with electrohypersensitivity, and other biological effects in both humans and animals;
comparison of international guidelines; and deceptions with science.

Libby Kelley, MA: Major legal issues; roles of EPA, FDA, FCC, HHS, etc.; new technologies, Wi-Max
and SmartGrids; presentation of new ICEMS report on non-thermal mechanisms of effect and
comparative international health policies

Camilla Rees, MBA: EMF assessment, remediation and safety strategies, Citizen activism in the U.S. &
the importance of health professional involvement.

6. Biographical Sketch

Two presenters are co-authors of the recent E-Book, “Public Health SOS: The Shadow Side of the
Wireless Revolution”, being sent in hard copy in March to Congress and thousands of health and
environmental journalists. Together Dr. Havas and Ms. Rees have addressed Bioneers (twice), the World
Conference for Integrated Medicine and the Commonwealth Club of California, the nation’s leading
public affairs forum. Ms. Kelley has presented has presented with them at Bioneers.

Magda Havas, PhD is Associate Professor of Environmental & Resource Studies at Trent
University, Canada, where she teaches and does research on the biological effects of
environmental contaminants, including radiofrequency radiation, electromagnetic fields, dirty electricity
and ground current. She is a world renowned published scientist in this field and serves as expert witness
on matters dealing with electrical pollution in both Canada and the United States. She received her BSc
and PhD from University of Toronto.

Camilla Rees, MBA. Ms. Rees is CEO of Wide Angle Health, LLC, a patient education and
advocacy organization. She recently co-authored “Public Health SOS: The Shadow Side of
the Wireless Revolution” with Dr. Havas and is Founder of
www.ElectromagneticHealth.org. Ms. Rees combines 15 years of business experience in
investment banking, venture capital and marketing communications with 10 years as an active
student and teacher of health optimization. She received a BA from Barnard College and an
MBA from Georgetown University Graduate School of Business Administration.

Elizabeth "Libby" Kelley, MPA is Managing Secretariat of the International Commission

for Electromagnetic Safety, an association of independent international scientists and medical
doctors concerned about EMF health risk. She has a BA in Sociology from UC Santa Barbara,
a Masters in Public Health Administration from University of Southern California and is a
former health policy analyst for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in
Washington DC.
