Title: Sleep Disorders Increase Cardiovascular Risk and Disease

Description: Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death. Recent research has provided evidence
that sleep disorders greatly increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. It is essential that naturopathic
practitioners be aware of this relationship, routinely screen patients for sleep disorders, and provide
treatment as necessary.

Learning Objectives:
1. Become familiar with the most common sleep disorders.
2. Learn the mechanisms by which sleep disorders contribute to cardiovascular disease.
3. Learn the variety of treatments available for the most common sleep disorders.

Biography: Dr. Catherine Darley combines her knowledge of sleep disorders with her training as a
naturopathic physician to bridge these two fields. As a naturopath her expertise lies in providing natural
and effective treatments for sleep problems. She is a graduate of Bastyr University and has received
extensive continuing education in the field of sleep medicine.
In 2003 she founded The Institute of Naturopathic Sleep Medicine which is dedicated to patient care,
public education about sleep health, and research on natural treatments for sleep disorders. At The
Institute of Naturopathic Sleep Medicine she provides treatment for a range of sleep disorders, including
insomnia, circadian rhythm disorders, and insufficient sleep. Dr. Darley works with people of all ages,
and particularly enjoys working with children and their families. Dr. Darley is a professional speaker,
promoting sleep health education and awareness for both health professionals and the public.
