Title: Children Ready to Heal the Planet

Description:
In order for our children to heal the planet, they need to be healthy themselves. Sleep is basic to the
foundation of health, yet the majority of children get insufficient sleep. This presentation will cover the
prevalence, symptoms, consequences and natural treatment of sleep disorders that impair children’s well-
being.

Learning Objectives:
1. Become familiar with the prevalence of the various sleep disorders that afflict children.
2. Learn to differentiate sleep disorders based on symptom picture.
3. Add naturopathic treatments for sleep problems to therapeutic ‘tool kit.’
4. Learn when a referral to a medical sleep center is appropriate.

Biography:
Dr. Catherine Darley combines her knowledge of sleep disorders with her training as a naturopathic
physician to bridge these two fields. As a naturopath her expertise lies in providing natural and effective
treatments for sleep problems. She is a graduate of Bastyr University and has received extensive
continuing education in the field of sleep medicine.

In 2003 she founded The Institute of Naturopathic Sleep Medicine which is dedicated to patient care,
public education about sleep health, and research on natural treatments for sleep disorders. At The
Institute of Naturopathic Sleep Medicine she provides treatment for a range of sleep disorders, including
insomnia, circadian rhythm disorders, and insufficient sleep. Dr. Darley works with people of all ages,
and particularly enjoys working with children and their families. Dr. Darley is a professional speaker,
promoting sleep health education and awareness for both health professionals and the public.
