What is the Lumbee River Independent Film Festival?

The Lumbee River Independent Film Festival is an annual event that targets student filmmakers in North Carolina as well as upcoming and established filmmakers across the nation to showcase their talents and allow their efforts to be recognized on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. The inaugural event in 2013 attracted filmmakers with a wide range of talents on diverse subjects. The highlight of the film festival this year will be the premiere of the documentary, Voices of the Lumbee, produced by Drs. Jason Hutchens and Michele Fazio at UNCP. Submission fee for students will be $20 per project with picture proof of student ID. The fee for all other submissions will be $50 per project. Checks can be made out to UNC Pembroke with Lumbee River Independent Film Festival in the memo line. Who can submit films? Professional or amateur filmmakers can submit films. Student filmmakers are especially encouraged to submit films. What kinds of films are you looking for? We are looking for any genre. Whether it is a documentary, experimental, or silent well take them all. We are especially interested in films featuring American Indian history and culture. Again, ALL FILM GENRES ARE WELCOME (Closed-captioning not required).

Will all films be screened at the festival? No. All films will be eligible for judging and we do reserve the right to select screenings for the program schedule.

Will materials be returned once decisions are made? No. We are unable to return your materials. Please do not send master copies.

Do you accept works in progress and rough cuts? Yes. We will consider rough cuts of films.

What is the evaluation process for submissions? A panel of qualified judges will decide winner and runner-up for each category. We reserve the right to select films for screening at the film festival.

Submissions should be postmarked by March 17 , 2014. The entry fee is doubled for films

submitted after March 17 . No films will be accepted after March 24 , 2014.

When is the film festival? The Lumbee River Independent Film Festival will be held on April 10th and 11th, 2014 at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke in the Givens Performing Arts Center.
