The Light is on for You during the YEAR OF FAITH

Pope Benedict XVI declared The Year of Faith beginning on October 11, 2012 and ending on November 24, 2013. In conjunction with the special focus of this year, Archbishop Myers has outlined the program titled The Light is on for You. It seeks to enrich and reinvigorate Catholics and draw people back to the faith by entering into a closer relationship with Christ through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. On all of the Wednesdays of Lent from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. our parish along with all the parishes and chapels of the Archdiocese of Newark will be open for individual confession. The Archdiocese has set up a website, www.YearofFaithArch ewark.org/reconciliation.htm to help you prepare. It has a video on the Sacrament of Reconciliation, sheets on how to make a good confession, answers to frequently asked questions and more. Please make plans to come on Lenten Wednesdays and spread the word of this special outreach of mercy to those you know.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIO : YOU ARE GIFTED

We are used to hearing the term gifted applied to people of exceptional ability or talent. Yet each of us is gifted. Through Gods grace, each of us has strengths, gifts, talents, and abilities without which the Body of Christ, the Church, is incomplete. This key dimension of stewardshipthe use of our gifts in service to othersis the one many Catholics have the most trouble with. We can see ourselves, with prayer and sacrifice, giving more of our time and our treasure. But talent? Thats for those other people, the gifted ones, we think. The term talent for a gift with which we have been entrusted by God comes from Jesus Parable of the Talents, where it originally meant a valuable coin. Like the stewards in the parable, entrusted with valuable commodities by our Master, will we hide them away in fear, or invest them for great return? Spend some time this week thinking about the gifts that you alone can share with our parish community and the wider worldand then make a plan to share them. As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God's varied grace. (1 Peter 4:10)

STEWARDSHIP APPEAL UPDATE

Our Stewardship Appeal started slowly, but now has picked up. To date after four weeks, 350 households have increased their weekly contribution in response to the letter from Fr. Bill, representing a combined weekly increase of approximately 8% in Sunday Collections. If you have not already done so, please use the special Stewardship envelope to indicate your new level of giving, and return to your regular envelope packet for succeeding weeks. If you are interested in receiving information on our Electronic Giving Program, please contact the rectory office.
