HAT IN THE RING

Difficulty: Intermediate Materials: TLC Cotton Plus: 3.5 oz, 100 g/ 178 yds/ 163 m 2 skeins
medium blue Crochet Hook Size H (5.00 mm), stitch markers, yarn needle, eleven 1 plastic rings

Gauge:

From center of crown outward: 7 ro = 2, On straight side: 7 st =

2 and 7 ro = 2

Measurements: 21 head size, bucket style with brim that can be turned

up or down. This hat runs slightly small.

Note: Note This entire project is made holding 2 strands of yarn together, including when you are crocheting into the rings.
Prepare 11 plastic rings by working 16 sc into each one. Fasten off. Weave one tail into back of ring. With yarn needle, join last sc to 1st sc and then with RS up, sew one ring to the next with 3 stitches. At this point, its a good idea to lay all your rings side by side. Measure from the first ring to the end of the last ring. You should have 21. If you do not, then make the stitches between the rings a bit looser as you sew them together. Weave yarn tail into back of ring. (Note: Its easier to weave your strands one at a time; a bit tedious but worth the effort.) Join last ring to first ring in the same way to form a circle. Sc in ea st around to marker.

Ro 16:

Holding RS of ring band against the RS of your previous row, [Work

first st on hat, insert hook into flo (front loop only) of top st on ring, pull loop through, yo, pull through both loops, Work between rings on hat.] Repeat 11

times. (74 sc) Fasten off. Weave in tails.

Ro 17:

Attach yarn with a sl st on RS of 1st ring in blo (back loop only) of

bottom stitch. Ch 1, sc into the blo of same stitch. *Ch 6, sc into blo of bottom st of next ring** Repeat from * to ** to last ring, ch 6, join with a sl st to 1st sc.

Ro 18-19:

Sc in ea st and ch to marker (74 sc)

Ro 20:

*Work 2 sc in next st, sc in next 5 sts ** Repeat from * to ** to

last 9 sts. Work 2 sc in next st. Sc in last 8 sts. (86 sc)

Ro 21:

*Work 2 sc in next st,

sc in 9 sts,** Repeat from * to ** to last

5 sts. Sc in last 5 sts (95 sc)

Ro 22:

*Work 2 sc in next st, sc in next 11 sts ** Repeat from * to ** to

last 11sts. Work 2 sc in next st, Sc in last 10 sts. 103 sts

Ro 23: Weave in tails.

Sl st around to marker. Join with a sl st to 1st sl st, fasten off.
