The daily astrological predictions in the newspapers

fun or fact

Our first interaction with astrology often starts with a curious gaze at a perso nal horoscope column with predictions for that day, week, month or year printed in the magazines and news papers (or in the websites). Generally these predictio ns are based on western sun sign, like if you are born in between September 23 a nd October 23 you are a Libra and between October 24 and November 21 you are a S corpio so on and so forth. Now a days, the Indian moon chart system (which demands a more accurate birth data than just those birthdays) are also started featurin g in the newspapers, magazines and websites. But how far these predictions are r eliable and is there any sort of support in the ancient Indian astrological text s for these type of predictions? Let s find out. The world population (the sum total of all living humans on Earth), as of today, it is estimated to more than 7 billion. There are 12 zodiacal signs. So, on an average every zodiac sign represents more than half a million people. So, if you read in your daily prediction column that you are going get real money today it m eans not only you but more than half a billion people will get money, similarly if it reads you are going to fall in love the same goes for more than half a billi on people! The question is is there any method available where we can find out a bout our daily prediction or a hint about the sequences of events one might have to face within a certain period of time? The answer needs a bit of understanding of the system of Indian astrological met hods but first, we must realise that how to follow astrological guidelines as repr esented in ancient astrological texts which is often confused as predictions and f ollowed blindly by many. In English, the word astrology is generally used for the Sanskrit word of Jyotish . The word Jyotish is a sum of two words Jyoti and Isha. Jyo ti means light/energy and Isha means God. So, it loosely means The light of God , b ut a deeper meaning is also can be derived which is not our topic of discussion today. Therefore, Jyotish never means astrology rather it recommends us to follow ce rtain guidelines set by ancient saints and savants of Jyotish which leads us tow ards a more peaceful life. There are many references in the astrological texts where the transitional effec ts of planets from the moon sign is vividly described and to most of the astrolo gers that is the main source of their predictions for newspapers and magazines. This single reference calculation generally takes us to a most erroneous situati on and often defies the logic of Jyotish. Similarly, the two point calculation o ne from Moon sign and the other from the Lagna (ascendant/ Sun s daily position) a lso confuses us more. Same goes for the three point calculation Moon Sign, Lagna and Sun Sign. Why these points are considered by innumerable astrologers but ge nerally fail to yield a reasonable prediction? The root of the problem is in the cerebration and due to blindfolded following of the texts. It is often said that the existence of a human being is of three folds Taan (Bod y), Maan (Mind) and Atman (Soul). The astrological references are used as per th e planets and their general association of the meanings, like the Moon is genera lly considered as the signifier of the mind, the Sun signifies the soul and the Lagna signifies the body. So, Taan (Body), Maan (Mind) and Atman (Soul) becomes Lagna, Moon Sign and Sun Sign. So what happens if a planet like Saturn transits to the 3rd house from Lagna, 12th house from the Moon Sign and 2nd house from th e Sun? As per texts, a typical transit result of Saturn is very beneficial from Lagna especially for the health and from the Sun it is really bad particularly f or the health and from the Moon it is all-round miserable. Now take your pick! I f Lagna signifies the body then the point of consideration of the health should be from the Lagna or as these predictions in the texts generally refer to the Mo on sign as their hub point of the calculations, the emphasis should be given to the Moon sign anyway you look at it, you are ought to get confused and more ofte

n than not end up with some erroneous predictions. There are some other valid qu estions like when exactly the good or the bad will happen (as a planet like the Saturn stays by and large two and a half year in every sign)? What is the nature of the goodness or the otherwise of it ? etc. also remained to be answered. The over-commercialisations, the lack of researches and the lack of respect abou t this subject are the greatest fears of a Jyotish scholar today. Jyotish is ver y closely associated with spiritualism and to derive the innermost meanings one must study and practice it. In Indian astrology Moon, Sun, Rahu and Ketu are cal led planets along with the other five important planets viz. Mars, Mercury, Jupi ter, Venus and Saturn cumulates to a total of nine planets- often refers as the N ava (Nine) Graha (Planet/s) . Why Moon, Sun etc. are called the planets? Here agai n some meaning are lost in the translation the English word planet is a very poor su bstitute for the Sanskrit word graha the literary meaning of the graha is seizing, l aying hold of, holding etc. It means a large holding of prana shakti (life force /energy). It is believed that these huge energies are holding our body, mind and soul in this world and also indicates our karma and the how the future will tak e shape from it. Rahu and Ketu are two shadow planets referred to the two nodal axis points. The ancient sages and saints understood the meaning of life and destiny by pract ising profound meditation and in the elevated stage what they saw and experience d are written down much after by their disciples as the Jyotish it was never a sta tistical guess work as most of the today s research astrologers and astrology-writ ers try to project there were called mantra drasta (who have seen the mantra). It is very unfortunate, when the jyotish is looked from the viewpoint of a statisti cal probability or from a point of view of a gross calculation like what we see in the dailies and in the magazines. The nine planets and the Lagna along with o ther many heavenly bodies are the basis of calculation and the principles of log ic formulation are to be followed as described in the ancient jyotish classics l ike Parashara Sanhita, Jaimin Sutram etc. Every human birth (applicable to every living thing) is unique and the destiny or the route of karma is versatile as i t can be thus every birth chart (horoscope) is unique and needs an individualist ic approach to decipher what lies ahead in terms of karma and life projection an d not by any holistic approach where the essence of the teaching of our ancient saints are compromised by the lack of understanding and knowledge about Jyotish. The Lagna, nine planets and many other celestial bodies are the embodiment of Jy otish. So, no one,two or three point planetary transitions can generate a reason able prediction for the future of a person, again Indian astrological system is not only dependable on planetary transitions like the western astrology it takes a manifold view of a human life from different angles and has some unique time calculation system like Dasa system (a deep calculation of time periods from the moment of birth) to guide us in the light of God to a life of sanity and peace. So, the next time you read the personal astrology daily column, read with a stat utory warning to your brain Not to be taken seriously because it is not astrology at all. ================================================================================ ============= For more such articles, visit - www.jyotishsutra.com
