ACTIVITIES & GAMES

Playdough Make green playdough and use shamrock cookie cutter to cut out shamrocks. Shamrock Hunt Print the attached shamrocks with letters on them. Hide them around the room and sing the song below: (Sing to the tune of The Farmer In the Dell) Lets look for shamrocks now, Lets look for shamrocks now, And when we find a bright green one Then well take a bow. You can also practice letter recognition using these shamrocks. St. Patricks Day Parade On St. Patricks Day, have a parade! March around wearing ALL green. You can go all out with green leis, green hats, green beads, green nail polish, etc. Leprechaun Visit Before your child wakes up, leave green footprints all over the house. (An easy way to make footprints is to trace a shoe on green paper.) You can even tape some footprints on the ceiling! Mess up the furniture, etc. Leave a note from Leprechauns along with a treat if desired. When child wakes up, he/she will be surprised to see that leprechauns have visited your house!! Lucky Penny Hunt Hide pennies and see if children can find them. They can trade each

penny for a treatif they can explain a reason why they feel they are lucky. (I am lucky because I have great parents, etc) Word Search For older children, complete the attached word search and maze.

ART
Handprint Shamrock Press childrens hand into green paint. Press 3 handprints into a shamrock shape and add a stem using a green pipe cleaner. Paper Plate Leprechaun Paint the rim of a paper plate orange. After paint dries, cut slits. (This will be the beard.) Cut out a hat out of green construction paper. You can also add a black belt with yellow buckle for hat. Add a face on the center of the paper plate. Felt Shamrocks Cut hearts out of different colors of felt. Encourage child to put together different color combinations to create a shamrock on a felt board. You could also photograph color combinations and ask your child to duplicate the shamrocks in the same way. Rainbows Paint a rainbow and glue on cotton balls as clouds.

SCIENCE
Sensory Tub Make a sensory tub using split peas. Bury gold coins inside the split peas and have children search for them in their pot of gold. Color Mixing If youre really brave, drop yellow food coloring and blue food coloring into the toilet. Flush, and watch the colors mix to become green.

them different colors (or print on different colors of cardstock). Hide the shamrocks around the room and let child collect them in a basket. Help your child count out the number of total shamrocks. Sort the shamrocks into colors. You could also make patterns using the colors of shamrocks. For older children, do some addition. Give green shamrocks plus one red shamrock equals six shamrocks. Shamrock Measuring Trace your childs body on butcher paper while they are lying down. Use a shamrock cut-out to do some measuring. How many shamrocks tall are you? How many shamrocks long is your arm? You could also practice measuring other things in the house. Shamrock Sizes Use attached shamrocks to help your child put them in order by size from smallest to largest. Leprechaun Grid Game Use the attached grid game to roll a dice, identify the number, and count out the manipulatives. (Such as green M&Ms). Place one manipulative over each square on the grid until the grid is full. Lucky Charms Graphing Before eating a bowl full of Lucky Charms, sort the different types of marshmallows in your cereal. Add the numbers together to determine what part of the leprechaun you will draw. The goal is to try to draw the entire leprechaun! (This is great for older kids.)

FLANNEL BOARD FUN

Five Wee Leprechauns Use the attached Five Wee Leprechauns visual aids to act out this rhyme as a flannel board story.

Magic Leprechaun Drink Mix a package of lemonade and add yellow food coloring to make the color brighter. Add a drop of blue food coloring to the childs clear cup, and then pour in the lemonade. Watch as the drink turns green! Shamrock Glass Cookies Sugar cookie dough Green hard candy (Lifesavers or jolly ranchers) Roll out cookie dough and cut out using shamrock cookie cutter. Cut out a hole in the center using another cookie cutter. Crush candy using rolling pin and fill the holes in the center of the cookies. Bake on a foil-covered baking sheet. Cool completely and peel off foil. Shamrock Rice Krispies Treats Add a drop of green food coloring to your Rice Krispies treats and cut out with a shamrock cookie cutter. You could also add green M&Ms!

COLOR: GREEN
Green Scavenger Hunt Use the attached sheet to go on a green scavenger hunt. This could be really fun while looking through green sunglasses or green paper glasses. Kool-Aid Play-dough 1 c. flour 2 T. cream of tartar c. salt 2 packages of green Kool-Aid. 1 c. water 1 T. oil Green food coloring 1. In a saucepan, combine everything but the oil. Stir well. 2. Stir in oil. Add drops of food coloring. Stir well. 3. Move saucepan to stovetop and cook for 3-5 minutes on medium heat. Stir well the entire time. 4. When a soft ball starts to form, turn off the heat and remove the pan. Playdough will be hot. 5. Remove the ball of dough from the pan and let cool for a second. 6. Knead well until soft. 7. Store in airtight container or a ziplock bag. Green Snack Ideas Kiwi, green grapes, pesto, green beans, asparagus, avocado, broccoli, green apples, grasshopper pie, spinach tortillas, zuchinni, mint brownies, cucumber, honeydew, lettuce, limes, peas, pistachio pudding. Apple Jacks Sorting Sort apple jacks into green and orange. String green apple jacks onto string and wear them as a bracelet. Green Car Counting Go on a picnic somewhere you can see cars driving by. Card Search Search for the fives in a deck of cards. Songs Five Green and Speckled Frogs. Five Fat Peas Number Pattern Print the attached 5 number pattern. Paste 5 shamrock cut-outs on the number pattern. Craft Stick Houses Use 5 craft sticks to create a house... or anything else you would like to make! Writing Rhyme While practicing writing the number five, say this rhyme to help form the numeral: The little train First goes back, Then goes down And around On the railroad track. I like to practice writing numbers in finger paint, shaving cream, or using Crayolas window crayons. Finger Games Let your child place 5 olives on his/her fingers. Or 5 rings. Or 5 finger puppets. Count them as they take them on and off. Five French Fries Cut 2 yellow sponges into 5 long fries. Set the sponge fries out with 2 cardboard fry boxes from McDonalds. Let child count the French fries as they place them in the fry boxes. Five Fat Peas Glue 5 green fuzzy pompoms to a craft stick. These will be the peas on the pea pod. G is for Green Grass Cut a G out of cardstock. Cover with glue, sprinkle with green Easter grass. (Or real grass.) Flashcards Use attached flashcards to learn other G vocabulary. I usually laminate them, cut them apart, and bind them together using a book ring. The best time to go through these is while your child is eating! G Art Use green gummy bears to create the shape of a letter G. Glue into shape of letter if desired. G on the floor Using masking tape, tape a large G on the floor.
