HRM Assignment Situational Questions 1. Suppose a co-worker was not following standard work procedures.

The co-worker was more experienced than you and claimed the new procedure was better. Would you use the new procedure? Given the importance of the work and the intricacies involved, my first and foremost priority would be to ensure all safety guidelines have been followed. If in any case safety measures have been compromised, I would at once stop all proceedings and report the same to the safety officer in charge. However, if all safety norms have been followed, I would check all the prerequisites have been obtained (such as permission from other departments involved) and then only I would proceed. However if the procedure is only concerned with the technique in performing the job , I would observe for the first time and if found more effective , I would definitely discuss the same at the end of the day with my department about including the same in the normal procedure of daily activities before practising on daily routines . 2. Suppose you were giving a sales presentation and a difficult technical question arose that you could not answer. What would you do? Since I represent a sales team, it is not in my forte to answer difficult technical question. Although I would always give my very best in learning and preparing every details and be ready for any prospective questions relating to the presentation, given the situation considering that I am unable to answer the question, I would request the group to forward his business card assuring him that I WOULD GET BACK to him with a proper solution to his question at the earliest. Further if any colleague from technical team is present with me, I would request him to answer. Past Behavior Questions 3. Based on your past work experience, what is the most significant action you have ever taken to help out a co-worker? A consignment of 500 control valves from Singapore arrived at our plant on a Saturday evening when almost all my co-workers have left for the day. Myself and my reporting officer were about to leave when the truck driver came in. The job to properly store in the yard was the duty of my colleague Mr. Subhasis, however it was his birthday and all were gearing up for a birthday bash. Me and my reporting officer along with the driver struggled till 2 am, finished the job(proper handling of the EOT crane, co-ordinate marking, updating in the system, etc.) before we went back. Can you provide an example of a specific instance where you developed a sales presentation that was highly effective? I was entrusted with selling cables to the oil & gas industry. While the normal procedure was to give presentation stating the various standards that have been followed to manufacture the product and to assure the client that the products comply all necessary mandate, I took a little different path. This time I carried sample cables to the client and demonstrated practical situations. First of all I spilled oil on the cable and lit fire on them. cables connected to a source and a bulb. After the fire was turned off, I demonstrated that the bulb was still ON and that the insulation of the cable was intact with minor changes in color. The clients were very impressed and ordered cables worth Rs. 10Cr. from us. I was even given proper recognition back in my office and a standard was set for all sales team to follow such demonstration.

Background Questions 5. What work experiences, training, or other qualifications do you have for working in a teamwork environment? I would categorize the following which would make me eligible for the position you are looking for: I have a work experience of 3.5 years working in a team of 70 members and leading my own team of 10. I have successfully completed Six Sigma and currently a GREEN belt certified. I was awarded the future executive leader award for successfully organizing a road show for my products in the state of Odisha. I have done B.Tech in Instrumentation with Dual degree of MBA(Indian University) & MS(European University) with a specialization in Marketing, which I believe would bring in the best in me to your company in serving and taking the Organization in achieving and surpassing its goals. 6. What experience have you had with direct point-of-purchase sales? As mentioned in question 4, the way we were awarded a contract of Rs.10 Cr. was one of the instance where I had to deal with all the formalities of finalizing a Sale at that point. Further on, I had to meet the top management of all the organization and was successful in helping them take a wise and calculated decision to do business with us. I believed in long term relationship with my clients and have always gone the extra mile to help them and give them support in technical terms. I usually had my laptop and at site I present them with the quotation for our product and visit them over time for negotiation. My past work experience and the rapport that I have built with the industry would help me to bring in good profits for your organization too. Job Knowledge Questions 7. What steps would you follow to conduct a brainstorming session with a group of employees on safety? I would conduct the following: Poster design for accident prevention program (posters showing family members waiting for the worker to return, etc.) Group activities on slippery floor, at heights (maybe on a table), etc. Personal Protective Equipments available and is mandatory for workers to wear before work. Identification of hazardous gases, chemicals, or materials used on-the-job. Basic electrical rules to be conducted in acting. Display of how to use portable fire extinguishers. Familiarity with standards from National Organizations and Federal Agencies. Demonstration on Housekeeping, Draining and Storage system. Development of Safety Bulletin Board. Proper care to be taken for floor Openings, floor Holes and open-sided Floors. Use of ear plugs for workers being exposed continuously to high decibel levels. Use of safety glass for welding works.

What factors should you consider when developing a television advertising campaign? Factors to be considered for developing a television advertisement are: Involvement of eminent personality as brand ambassador for the product. Catchy jingles for the product. Display of situations that are normally encountered by everyone and giving solution through our product with a tinge of humor. Display of the advertisement at prime time on high rated television channels. Choosing of proper advertising agency with successful past records. Use of company logo judiciously in the advertisement with proper bright colors which would remain on customers mind. Keeping the minimum time to spread the advertisement with minimum budget required. I would also work upon spreading the same advertisement on internet, social networking, etc.
