ALZHEIMER: SIMPLE YET COMPLEX

Science and Technology have progressed over a decade yet scientists are researching on diseases and are now finding the root cause to be a genetic factor. Such as disease is Alzheimer, also known as Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) nowadays. A person suffering from this disease undergoes degradation in maturity and behaves like a child and gradually loses all his memories. Some eminent personalities like George Ferdinand, the former foreign minister of India also suffered from this. Alzheimers diseases are rare in India but it affects around 465000 peoples in the U.K. It is common cause of dementia. Alzheimers disease was first described by the German Neurologist Aloes Alzheimer, as a physical disease affecting the brain. During the course of the disease, protein plaques and tangle develop in the structure of the brain, leading to the death of brain cells. People with Alzheimer also have a shortage of some important chemicals in the brain. These chemicals are involved in the transmission of message within the brain. Alzheimers is a progressive disease, which means that gradually overtime more parts of the body are affected by it

Symptoms of this disorder are as follows

Loss of memory. Mood changes. Problem with commutating and reasoning. The person is confused and frequently forgets the name of people, places appointments and recent activities done. Difficulty carrying out everyday activities.

So far nothing has been identified as a cure for Alzheimers disease. It is likely that a combination of factor including age, genetic inheritance, environmental Factor, lifestyle and overall general health are responsible. In some people the disease may develop silently for many years before symptoms appear. Usually people more than 65 years of age suffer this. Many people fear that they may inherit Alzheimer disease and scientists are currently investigating the genetic background of Alzheimer. There are few families in which thee is a clear inheritance of the disease from one generation to the next. This is often in families where diseases appear relatively early in life. In the majority of the cases however the influence of inherited genes for Alzheimer diseases in old people seem to be small. If a parent or any other relative has Alzheimer, your own chances of developing the disease are higher than if there are no cases of Alzheimers in the family.

There is currently no cure for Alzheimer. However, drug treatments are available that can temporarily alleviate some symptoms or slow down its progress in some people.

LIFE FOR AN ALZHEIMER PATIENT: Alzheimer patients are usually shunned by their families and relatives as taking care of them requires a lot of funds. Our former Foreign Minister George Ferdinand, an Alzheimer patient has his family fighting for division of his property among themselves. Usually most of the Alzheimers patient ends up in suicide.
