QUESTIONNAIRE SURVEY

SEQUENCING OF CRITICAL ACTIVITIES FOR COST AND QUALITY CONTROL IN DIFFERENT PHASES OF CONSTRUCTION OF MULTI-STOREY BUILDINGS

Information and Instructions

The questionnaire survey has been designed to collect data for master's research of Miss Sidra Maqsoom of the School of Engineering and Technology in the discipline of Construction Engineering and Infrastructure Management at the Asian Institute of Technology (A IT) , Thailand. The researcher may be approached at cell no. +92-3005539697 or email: sidra.civil@gmail.com for any clarification This questionnaire has been developed to achieve one of the objectives of research study which aims to identify sequencing practices being followed by Pakistani contractor firms for the construction of multi-storey buildings during different phases of construction such as foundation, structure, architecture, electrical and mechanical works and finishing. The other objectives relate to further analyses of the relationship between sequencing of critical activities and resource management such as crew balancing, material management and equipment & machinery handling and their influence on cost and quality control. The findings of study will help propose recommendations for sequencing of critical activities and resource management under each construction phase, such that it reduces the cost and increases quality of multi-storey buildings.

The questions are simply drawn to record your personal opinion and assessment on a given scale. There are no "correct" or "incorrect" answers rather your frank and candid responses are requested. This questionnaire takes 07 to 10 minutes to be finished with. Kindly feel free to respond to the questions asked. The information provided will be used purely for academic purposes. Identity of the respondent and the firm will be kept confidential as per the privacy policy of the institution. This questionnaire will help the undersigned to complete her master's dissertation/thesis.

Please return the questionnaire within two weeks from the date of receipt. Your timely response will help the researcher to complete her research in time.

Thanks in advance for your kind help and cooperation.

The critical activities are to be time bound The critical activities cannot be done without effective resource management such as crew balancing, material management, and equipment & machinery handling Sequencing of critical activities including effective resource management helps in controlling the cost and quality of construction projects including multi-storey building projects The critical activities are to be planned and sequenced in a systematic way using various recommended softwares and techniques such as MS Project, Primavera Critical Path Method (CPM) etc. CPM (or its modified versions) is the most widely used method for sequencing in construction projects including multi-storey buildings Besides CPM, there are/can be number of other methods and techniques for sequencing

For the construction of similar floors same out-puts are achieved in same time using same amount of resources Labour teams (crews) are continuously available with no idleness (wastage) Time allocated to a simple activity is often saved with earlier completion and used for the completion of a complex activity Ifresources such as crews, materials, equipments and machinery are short they can be effectively managed by moving from places where they are no more needed to places where they are required If resources are short timelines are kept flexible Number of activities can be undertaken simultaneously rather than one after another to save time and control cost and quality
