Current situation: Society, the most powerful stratum of the India, knows the importance of environment and nature

sustainability. Nature has endowed us with all the resources to which maximum beneficiary is human beings. Nature has full proof system of protection of all the creatures and environment subject to check on excessive pollution and resources utilization. The environment of our planet is degrading at an alarming rate because of non-sustainable urbanization, industrialization and agriculture. Unsustainable trends in relation to climate change and energy use, threats to public health, poverty and social exclusion, demographic pressure and ageing, management of natural resources, biodiversity loss, land use and transport still persist and new challenges are arising. Since these negative trends bring about a sense of urgency, short term action is required, whilst maintaining a longer term perspective. The main challenge is to gradually change our current unsustainable consumption and production patterns and the nonintegrated approach to policy-making. Role of Society in management of Environment: To promote, encourage knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of nature; To propagate eco-technology to enhance efficient resource use; To undertake pilot projects for demonstration of viable developmental options; To promote and provide training, research and publication on environment; To promote community action for socio-economic and eco-development; To disseminate information through workshops, conferences, audiovisuals etc.; To collaborate with like-minded institutions in creating network Policies: Improving Environmental Policy and Law for Promoting Sustainable Industrial Development in India Other Programs: Road Safety Awareness Campaign Women Empowerment and Relief Measures Library and Resource Centre Coordination on MoEFs Project.

Environmental Education and Awareness Global Warming and Climate Change These days, there has been greater emphasis on Climate Change and it severely affected almost all the physical and biological components of the Planet Earth. Apart from the climate change, biodiversity loss and wetland degradation are another important areas on which the impact of climate change are clearly visible. Thus urgent and serious attention is needed for these issues. Innovative ideas should come out for solving the existing problems and Peoples participation should be encouraged for suitable activities in the areas of Climate Change, Biodiversity and Wetlands. Realizing the above facts, the Indian Environmental Society in association with GLOBE Regional Office for Asia-Pacific organized a seminar on Biodiversity, Wetlands and Climate Change at the International Centre, Goa in September 2010.

Biodiversity Conservation Conservation of biodiversity has always been an objective of environment education. IES has expertise in and has done a wide range of activities in this area. It coordinated the Education, Awareness and Training' Semiars/workshops on National Biodiversity Conservation. Several of its Ecodevelopment Programmes looked at biodiversity conservation as a major thrust. There have been many school programmes, manuals and training programmes which had, and have, biodiversity as the focus area.

Waste Management Whatever we decide to label it -- rubbish, trash, waste, refuse, or garbage -- the piles keep growing. It comes from homes, schools, businesses, factories, and other places; it is generated by people of all ages. As hard as we try to reduce and recycle large amounts of waste, we will still have some left to be disposed With industrialization and urbanization, the problems of waste disposal have increased many folds. We must re-educate ourselves to realize that waste is a resource that should be managed. High population density, intensive land use for residential, commercial and industrial activities led to adverse impact on the environment. Across the nation, waste management laws are being enacted and communities are developing plans for better management of their garbage. Management of waste requires a comprehensive plan. It will take the right combination of options to meet each community's needs.

Wildlife India is rich in wildlife with its exclusive, fascinating and diverse ecosystem. Wildlife includes any animal, aquatic or land vegetation which forms part of any habitat. India is among the twelve mega biodiversity countries of the world. Countrys wildlife is extended over the evergreen forests of North East India to barren deserts of Rajasthan and from alpine forests of Himalaya to the Western Ghats.

Energy Conservation In a scenario where India tries to accelerate its development process and cope with increasing energy demands, conservation and energy efficiency measures are to play a central role in our energy policy. A national movement for energy conservation can significantly reduce the need for fresh investment in energy supply systems in coming years. It is imperative that all-out efforts are made to realize this

potential. Energy conservation is an objective to which all the citizen in the country can contribute. Each one of us has a role to play in promoting energy efficiency and conservation. The efficient use of energy, and its conservation, is a key element of our national energy policy. Enhanced energy efficiency enables us to not only provide greater access to energy services, especially for the poorest, it also signifies our commitment to clean development mechanism. Energy efficiency improvements provide the additional benefits of lower operating costs and greater competitiveness for the industry.

Water and Wetlands Water is a vital part of the environment and a home for many forms of life on which the well - being of humans ultimately depends Wetland conservation is an issue that has often been overlooked in environmental policy-making. Yet water is so utterly vital to life, it is hard to understand why this is so. After all, what is it that the Mars Rover missions have been seeking on that planet in order to find out if life ever existed there? Of course, the answer is water! Conclusion: Environmental management can be so important because our environment gives a part of what we are whether our culture are dirty people or clean, it is also nice to live in a nice, clean place which is not polluted. It is also important to get people live in that place if a certain city, country is polluted no one will think of living there and visitors will have a negative point of view on that place. The Society aspires to be the leading and co-ordinating body for professionals working in sustainability and environmental matters and a pre-eminent champion of a sustainable environment. The Society will achieve this by nurturing and harnessing the combined resources, knowledge, expertise and achievements of the professional and learned bodies which are its members. The Society for the Environment has a key role to play in co-ordinating and representing the views of the environmental professions on how best to meet the challenges of climate change, and of development within environmental limits. They make creative contribution to arrest pollution and protect environment. It is not only industrial pollution but the pollution from various day to day operations that needs checking for protecting environment. Thus Society can play a pivotal role in changing the scenario of protecting environment.
