Romeo and Juliet Minor Writing Assignment The assignment is to write a summary paragraph based on Act 2 Scene 6 in Romeo

and Juliet. You are required to read Act 2 scene 6 on your own and write a summary paragraph on the key points made in the scene. A summary is a condensed version of a larger reading. A summary is not a rewrite of the original piece and should not be the same in length. To write a summary paragraph, use your own words to express briefly the main idea and relevant details of the scene you have read. Your purpose in writing the summary is to give the basic ideas of the original reading. Read the entire scene first. This will give you a better idea of what you will be writing about. Your summary paragraph should include some structure, please make sure to include: 1. Introduction or Topic Sentence: This motivates the reader to want to read more and introduces the theme of your paragraph. 2. Body Sentences: The body expresses the main points or ideas of your paragraph. 3. Conclusion: A conclusion is the last sentence of your paragraph. A conclusion sums up the main points or ideas and usually leaves the reader satisfied. What do you want handed in? One edited rough copy and a good copy of your summary. When do you hand in? This sentence should help organize the paragraph by summarizing the information in the paragraph. When you read an introduction sentence, you should be able to know what the entire paragraph will be about. Introduction checklist: 1. Do I understand what the writer is trying to express, is it clear? 2. Do these sentences provide a sufficient amount of information that you know what to expect in the rest of the paragraph? If the answer was yes for both, give them 2 marks. Body: The body should include information that makes your introduction sentence a true statement. The body should provide evidence or key points expressing why the introduction sentence is true. Body checklist: 1. Do I understand what the writer is trying to express, is it clear? 2. Does the sentence provide evidence that backs up the introduction sentence? 3. Is this sentence relevant to one of the key points discussed in class? If the answer was yes for all three questions, give them 3 marks. Conclusion: A good conclusion sentence restates the introduction sentence; it should restate the main idea of the paragraph by using different words.
